Paul, could it be a wren of some sort? I'm very impressed by your photograph of this little bird in its hideaway. Lovely earthy colors, though they do make me worry that fall is coming too soon!

Not a Wren BB, we only have one species of wren here, which is most like what is called in North America the "Winter Wren" ... it's a warbler, but I just can't pick which one ...

Paul,
Not a lot to go on with that one, however I would argue that it's too dull for a Willow Warbler, the face would be more bland in a Garden Warbler with a more prominent eye, so we are left with Chiffchaff by default.
Garden Warblers are leaving now, Willow Warbler can be around until early September and Chiffchaff until October. Chiffchaff will only be going as far south as southern Europe with the other two going south of the Sahara. In my part of the country they will be replaced in November by wintering Chiffchaff that has come from Europe, so I can see Chiffchaff in every month of the year.

Great photos by everyone :-) Think its time for me to finally chip in to this thread... but I guess I'm cheating in a way as these were taken down a zoo and apologies as they might not be birds in the strictest sense...
A vulture making himself look bigger - perhaps in reaction to zoo visitors intruding into his 'space'?

Love all the birds. I'm not having much luck around here. Its ducks, or flittery wrens. The magpies and noisy miners are away at the moment, No doubt they will be back in Spring, which almost arrived this week.

Sue, I'd say you were having quite good luck!
Peter, I have a thing for pelicans and appreciate this picture very much.
Vince, zoo photographs are AOK - it's not all of us who can get to the southern hemisphere to take pictures of penguins.
