can I go for Raven for my check list then?
It seemed a lot less stout then saw a Roof or Crow and also a (lot) smaller than the Rooks that I am seeing - I thought the Raven was bigger than both the C Crow and Rook
There is no way that photo1 is a Jackdaw, the bill, head and neck are far to long. Jackdaw has a shorter, much more delicate bill. Size wise Raven is as big, possibly even bigger than a Buzzard. I'm afraid that's all I can say.

Thanks Barrie - I'll pass on this one then as it was no where near Buzzard size, (I am very familiar with Buzzard as they are very common where we live in France).

Texas - you need to become our N American bird expert as you seem to have great wildlife were you live - (and I don't mean in the local bars)

Bill, it's either an Eastern Meadowlark, or a Western Meadowlark, the differences are very subtle.

Pity - I would have thought that you would have saved that for this May monthly thing we are doing and shared it with the much bigger audience than this rather selective, (quality not quantity), bird thread
just bought some lovely new bins, (seriously, I have) - 8 x 20s - should dazzle a bird or two (indoors) - the birds expect a "bit of class" down Bordeaux way
