a mallard decided to semi dive bomb me the other day
at my son's near salisbury, UK
out for a short walk, (between the rain showers)
Mallard came out of the trees, (strange ?), did a "fly past" then turned and semi dive bombed me
managed to fire a few shots off which were not too bad

3rd = Red Kite ........ the Kite was being harassed by three crows or rooks
4th = Grey Wagtail

Bii,
First two are of a Dunnock, The only UK representative of the Accentor family, a small group of European birds that all tend to live at altitude, except the Dunnock. Common particularly in hedgerows and gardens.

Barrie/Paul
another for you - I cannot find it in the book
Finch size - hanging around with a few Greenfinches and Sparrows
could be a little browner than the image
Seen in Autoroute service area - inland but towards the west atlantic coast of France about 200 miles from the Channel

You got there Bill. probably a female based on the thickness of the white webs in the primaries.

Thanks Barrie - the other thing that confuses me is the birds head - presumably (she) has pulled all the crown feathers down making the head look smaller - rather than puffing them up - in Collins the heads always seem "bigger" and more round
