Ray is THE man!
For some odd reason, I decided to go to the DPReview Fuji X100 forum today. For the past month or two, I've really minimized my visits there.
So I came across a thread today about street photography inside Costco. For those not in the US, Costco is a warehouse style store that sells a variety of items (including electronics) at a discounted price to its members. Well, it's supposed to be discounted.
Someone provided constructive criticism to OP regarding the lack of interestingness in the photos, and then wrote to the following to the OP:
"Go to the Philadelphia street photography by Ray Sachs posted here to see how this is supposed to work. There is always a subject, a story or a scene which is pretty well defined by the photograph. These images work. "
I just thought it was really cool! So kudos to Ray!!! Woohoo!!

Thanks Armanius. I saw that. The same guy has since recommended a couple of other series of street that have been shown there since, on of which is probably on a par with mine, one of which pretty much blows my stuff out of the water. Another guy moving over from the gf1 in NYC. There are plenty of people doing good street work with the X100 already - there are a couple of Flickr groups popping up with some good stuff to check out.

Street photography inside Costco? Wouldn't they kick you out for that kind of thing?

Armando....
Ray is the biggest source of GAS there ever was for me.
Ray liked the LX5, I got the LX5....Ray liked the Nex 5, I got the Nex 5...I liked the X100 but Ray got it first.
This is all very cool because he always answers the phone when I'm in panic mode. He always figures out the things that would make me crazy but he gets it worked out so I don't have to think about it...
My fear is that now with the X100, Ray might want to go for the M9....
I'd have to sell the farm and kids and grands to get one....
Your right tho, he's the man and I am one who is proud to call him a friend....

Don, you're confused brother. You had the LX5 and were talking it up well before I got one - I might have figured out a few features that you hadn't spotted yet, but you fed me the GAS inducing beans on that one, along with BB. The Nex I'll take credit for, but ONLY the Nex. The X100 I didn't want, didn't want, didn't want, then I had to have it anyway. And got lucky on the timing. And I'm damn pleased my GAS got the better of me on that one... And don't forget the gf1 - you were talking that up while I was shooting with the ep2 and I eventually got a gf1 also. The difference is I still HAVE almost all of those damn cameras! You had the good sense to sell some of 'em. But, yeah, I do like to tinker, so I'll sometimes figure stuff out and pass it on.
But then there are the photographs. I'm new to this and am just working on my eye. Don's been shooting on the street for literally hundreds if not thousands of years and he creates photographs that will expose the soul right down past the bone. Which is where it counts and reminds us that the gear is just an entertaining sideshow.
Speaking of which Don - either of us hits the Lotto, we both get Leica's - deal? Otherwise, I don't play in that league...

Armando, great move on this thread!
I'm still busy laughing over Andrew's remark
Street photography inside Costco? Wouldn't they kick you out for that kind of thing?

P.S. Ray, and congrats on the Dpreview kudos, too - well deserved!

Well, getting involved in this whole SC site has given me the untreatable, incurable GAS. I hesitate to admit what else I have coming, but watch the forums!

Thankfully this website seems to have the opposite effect on me. Hearing people talk about how much they enjoy their own camera equipment makes me appreciate my existing gear even more.

Wow! I really wish it had that affect on me. Although I'm happy to admit I still only have the one camera that I got in December. I've bought a few legacy lenses since then, but I haven't given in to another camera body although the temptation has been great.
