Canon will use their muscle to sell a ton of these things, even though there will probably be a whole bunch of better products available. Oh well.

Nope, not at all, sorry. Just assuming it was using similar technology to the Nikon J1 and V1, which are very fast. I was unaware of their history with slow hybrid AF. And based on the comments in the official announcement thread, looks like I was dead wrong.
