Thread: Sensor Size Doesn’t Matter

While I love the results I get with my DSLR's, I cannot carry them with me all the time. My XZ_1 and its fast lens does go a long way to matching, in web view, my DSLR's, but even it cannot with me all the time.
My phones can be and are

Interestingly, the Fuji F30 was one reason why I made the move to DSLR's. I had and loved the f31fd. When I shot it alongside my K100D super I. Was struck by how much more '3D' the larger sensor seemed. No doubt
This was due to DOF with the larger sensor. I still loved the draw of the smaller sensor esp
With my GRD but that added depth the larger sensor gave haunted me. But the ease and speed and
Portability was lacking even with my e410.
Then I got the XZ-1; small, light and a superb fast lens.
The depth is actually there, at least at low ISO.

Size does matter, but as I left my Olympus E-P3 at home for the first time since I bought it and was having photograpic withdrawal symptoms a camera phone was called into action...

Use it with the sun behind you (hmm, Kodak picture taking circa 1955) it does an OK job. The limitations are the poor dynamic range, blown out hightlights and terrible edge sharpening artifacts but viewed in small sizes, these are fine. In fact this 8mp camera phone can produce images in the right conditions that would probably print up quite well in A4 sizes.
