At night, the milky way was pretty visible, and I shot this but I need quick advice:
First, the red streak was obviously a plane going overhead, which was near the center when the shutter opened and worked its way off screen. Second there's a shooting star near the center towards the bottom. The way I shot it was this: I set it up facing upwwards on something very stable, I put the 2 second delay on, set the camera to Bulb, which leaves the shutter open for 30 seconds. The problem is that during 30 seconds the earth rotates enough to make all the stars little oblong streaks. What would've gotten a clearer shot?
10 seconds is the recommended time if you don't want star trails. I shot mine at 13 secs because I didnt know any better at the time and the trailling is minimal, but 10 is the recommended max

So I actually can't figure out how to set that time - default for bulb is 30 seconds and I can't find it in the menus... Anyone know roughly where it is?
The best camera you have is the one you actually brought with you.

My dim recollection from the film days was that B (Bulb) was a completely manual shutter mode. You pressed and held the shutter button (preferably using a cable release), counted to the desired time, then allowed the shutter to close. Does B not work that way on digital cameras that have that feature?

Day trip to the seaside - English Summertiome!
We did a day trip recently to the seaside that is about 90 min away, typical summers day (2012) sunny / overcast / threatening rain......mixed bag but X100 handled it well!
