Leica CEO on Bloomberg Television
Alfred Schopf, CEO of Leica Camera AG, and Joseph Douek, CEO of Willoughy's in New York City, were on Bloomberg Television this morning. No real news but you might find it interesting...

Ah, yes. Leica. Far be it from me to criticize any of their products. But in listening to the CEO, I am reminded that Leica essentially has no choice but to position themselves as an ultra-high end company and charge for their wares accordingly. Not that Leicas could ever be considered inexpensive for any given time in the company's history. But competition - and good products - from Asia presented them with a choice: Move most of their production to Asia and begin building cameras and lenses to a price point... or use the ultra-luxury business model. If Leica wasn't getting $8,000 for camera bodies and $2,000-$3,000 for lenses they'd be out of business, like so many other makers of fine equipment.
