Nikon V1 on the way!
Decided to test out the V1, and it should be here tomorrow. I've played with it a few times at the local camera store, and with the J1 at Best Buy. They looked impressive in some ways, and rather pedestrian in others. But I figure that I'd give it a run. Not too good for the GAS for sure.
To combat the guilt of having yet another camera (at least for now anyway), I've put both the Pentax K5 and the Fuji X100 on sale at Fred Miranda. Strange (and ironic) that I'm selling my best two cameras (high ISO performance wise), while buying something that's probably not all that great. And even more ironic, I really do like the X100. But the K5 and X100 are probably the two easiest cameras to sell. So there ... Maybe no one will make me an offer on the X100 ... hehehe.
But I'm looking forward to testing out the fabled AF ability of the V1. At the end of the day, I may not keep it, because I do like to play with DOF, and I do love creamy bokeh. And I do gripe about noise. But then, I'm also always griping about the quirky AF on the X100. Well, if I return the V1, then I'd keep the X100 for sure!
Now ... how about starting that Nikon V1 subforum?

Armando, Armando, Armando...whatever would we (or the camera companies) do without your ever present G.A.S.? All kidding aside, it will be good to hear from another member about the Nikon V1. I've put in some feelers about another sub-forum.

Armando.. you are like me.. sick.. LOL.. I tried out the V1 today at local store..nice but lack of fast lenses so far.. EVF nice and AF fast.. as far as selling X100, I have it listed here and on MU-43 and Craig's list.. responses have been soft so far (very surprising to me) .. I think it's because of the time of yr.. near Christmas and money for the X100 is going other places.. just my two cents..

Armanius, I look forward to hearing what you think of the Nikon 1. Since I am a long time Nikon user in DSLRs I have looked with interest at the notices about that camera. Keep us posted.

We need to get Retow to post more pics!
There's a skate park near my place that I want to try the V1's fabled AF and FPS.

GAS is just.. dangerous but what a high! After all your accolades on gear you are really selling BEFORE you try the new camera out? See.. us sane people here [or so we tell ourselves] try it first and then make that trade off IF we feel guilt. I feel guilt about the GRD. So much money, I could get another DSLR. As it is I just bought a Konica Autoreflex Full/Half and 50mm 1.4 Hexanon from Keh. I blame the time of year, my poor health and my need for a 'backup' camera. [See GRD] They need a pill for this .. or something. Can't wait to hear your review!

Armando, I'm interested to see how you think (or don't think as the case may be) that a Nikon 1 camera would fit alongside an existing Micro 4/3 system like you have. My personal feeling based on everything I've heard and read about the Nikon 1 is that I would have either one or the other but not both, and I haven't seen anything yet that would tip me towards the Nikon camp. Looking foward to hearing your thoughts once you've got the camera in your hands.

The V1 is a point and shoot with image quality challenging mft and perfomance in good DSLR territory. I believe it will redefine the point and shoot category by raising the bar and move this market segment where phone cameras can not (yet?) compete. Image quality I consider "good enough", but no match for X100 and the likes. Look forward reading your impressions. When you try it, give the V1 a little time, it's a camera which grows on you. And don't forget to keep it out of reach of your better half and family. The first of my cameras my wife wants to permanently borrow and my 12 year old wants to use because of the video stuff.
