I think you've succeeded very well. And I really enjoy the composition, too.

Seems like trees are pretty popular on this thread this week, here is another; giant Cypress in South Texas.

Trees are great subjects, particularly for B&W! Lots of shapes an textures and tones to play with. The strong lines you brought out in that cypress look really good.
