If you want a quick visit before you buy ... I'm good for a tour or two. LA get most of its water via aquaduct from snowfall in the Sierra Nevada mountains (hence few rain days). I can see you training your lenses on Bristlecone Pines (oldest living organism in the world), Sequoias (largest trees in the world), Yosemite, the Central Coast where the Pacific meets cliffs 100's of feet high and on top those cliffs - Redwoods, miles and miles of sand dunes along our coast and deserts, drys lakes as flat as a billard table to waters which are so pristine and clear that even the native Americans called it "Big Blue" (Lake Tahoe), From the highest spot in the Continental United States (Mt. Whitney) you can look down to the lowest spot in North America (Death Valley)... Barrie, California is waiting for you. And when you miss merry Ol' England, you can visit San Francisco where it is dreary, cold, foggy and wet more often than not (Samuel Clemens said the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.

PS- You will have to develop a palate which relishes the finest wines in the world and a hankering for wonderful, spicy, Mexican food.

LOL, I have images sorta like that ... but for me it's no matter how you hold it, it still looks crappy.

@ Barrie:
... and our roads and freeways are congested, mass transit is a joke, housing is terribly expensive and we Californians are one of the most heavily taxed people in the United States.

LOL ... but that's only in Southern California. Remember that California is about the size of the UK, so plenty of room to find an environment that's suits you own style and desires. How about Carmel (Central Coast), you can take off where Ansel Adams ended ...
PS- there is a lot to say for an extraordinary mix of mountains, coast, deserts, forests, et al, all coming together in one place ... and ... (dare I say), perfect weather.

Pugachev's Cobra Barrel Roll #3
Hanger 24, a micro brewery in Redlands, CA crafted this stuff. It was absolutely wonderful. Didn't taste like a beer at all, rich and full ... no, make that overflowing with flavors. This is not a beer to quench one's thirst, it was a beverage to pair with a meal.
Long Story: More than a year ago, November 2011, my cousin called and asked "... wanna go to Redlands (about an hour+ east of us), and buy some limited production beer. Hanger 24 is having a barrel roll." Having never heard or tasted any of Hanger 24's fares or even a barrel roll, I readily agreed. So we hopped into his new Audi, put the top down and spirited away to Redlands. The sales were to commence at 4:00 p.m., our very time of arrival. As we drove past the establishment in search of a parking spot we couldn't help but noticed a line of customers stretching a block long. Shortly after queuing up, a gentleman came walking by counting all the customers and informing us that we would only be allowed to purchase four bottles each. Then a few patrons behind Pat and I, he thrust his arm into the line and stated that this was it, the end of the beer and for all those behind his arm to go home.
So we made it to the front purchased our four bottles each and then learned that we had to return in two weeks to claim our beer. I gave three bottles away as Xmas presents and kept the fourth, forgotten in the back of the frig. Sunday we had a bit of a party and I remembered the Hanger 24 and the early sipped this enchanting beer. The beverage certainly deserved to be stopped with a champagne cork and wire. It was one of the best beer I've ever had in a lifetime of drinking beer. Gary

We like to pride ourselves on our beers back here in Wisconsin, but I must say that there are some mighty fine micro brews out there on the West Coast.
And that's a nice photo as well!

California has a ton of very very good micros, but California is huge, just based on sheer numbers one would expect a ton of breweries. Oregon, on the other hand, has more than their fair share of micros and they are great. I haven't done nearly enough research but I think that what California is to wine, Oregon is to beer. It has been with great pleasure that I have experienced beer going from a mass produced consumable to a finely craft dining beverage. Hanger 24 is across the street from the Redlands airport (hence the name) and near acres and acres of orange groves. Many of their beers have integrated oranges into the brew, genius and tasty.
The image was taken in the backyard, OM-D w/ P35-100 @ 68mm, 1/90, f/3.5, ISO 200. (shooting into the rose garden)
