So, this is my cat, Walpurgisnacht. She was born on Walpurgis Eve 1993, six months after my daughter. That is 4-30-1993. My next door neighbor and friend Vicki said she heard cat sounds throughout the night and she showed me the window well to her basement. However it being the next day, May 1st, she had not heard nor seen the mother. We wondered if the kittens she assumed were there, were really indeed there. So I took a stick and gently prodded the coverings of the nest and nothing moved. Removing some of the leaves, I could see that the mother had not made it back through the particularly cold night, the kittens were dead. So I went to take them out of Vicki's window well and found one of them, this one, alive. I took her to the vet that day and they told me kitten milk replacer and I used this teeny tiny bottle. They said she was so little and wild, she probably wouldn't make it. I did see the mother cat about a week later but it was too late to give the kitten back to her and she was taking well to the bottle. So, I was taking care of two babies at the time, my daughter and my cat. Both are now 19 and while my daughter likes to make faces at the camera or even will pose for me, my cat will not. I have very few photos of her. She hides. She hasn't had any bad experience with the camera but who knows, perhaps she thinks it will take her soul! Either way after three sittings today, and a tail over my lens, I managed to get a sharp enough shot. Usually they are black blurs. I spiffed the image up a bit, it being her birthday and all. Anyway, this is my contribution to the requisite kitty cat photo thread. Don't expect more. Even at 19 she is still quite elusive. Until, that is, she smells ice cream! Happy Birthday Walpurgisnacht! Btw, no one calls her that. I've been making little mewling sounds at her since day one and imitating her sounds. If anyone is called a name it is me. My cat.. says Mamaa :)

Black with gold eyes. That is her "Are you still pointing that thing at my face" expression. Good luck to your kitty. I hope all goes well. And now see those shots I can get. classic silhouette facing away! All she did was turn her face away from me. When my daughter held her, when I held her, when she was lying on the floor. This was part of a stretch which is why her leg is still out. She's small 6lbs but the perspective with the foot looks big.

Here's Tom, in his other favourite place: staring me down from the back screen door. One eye at a time.
