It is the Rolls Royce EJ 200 engine that powers the first stage of Bloodhound SSC, the second stage is a rocket - it is about 6 feet away from me at the present time
I went to the MACH exhibition yesterday and had the privilege of taking to some of the guys working in the Bloodhound SSC project.

The first stage is powered by the Rolls Royce EJ 200 engine that is used in the Eurofighter, it “drives” the car up to about 600mph, then the 2nd stage “rocket” kicks in fully.
Their aim, (Bloodhound), is an average speed of 1,000 mph - the design speed of the car is 1,050 mph - at the Hakskeen Pan, (a dry river bed - I think!!), on the border between S Africa and Namibia - apparently 7,000, (yes thousand), tonnes of (small) stones have been cleared from the track BY HAND - the Rocket will produce 6 tonnes of thrust and the largest man-made noise in the world today.
The aim is to reach a new record of 850mph in August 2014 - then a year later in 2015 and 2016, they hope to hit 1,000 mph. It is a big jump as I think that the current land speed record is under 700mph.
1,000 mph will also beat the low altitude "air speed" record
I may go out in August, I know S Africa a little and I can combine it with a "birding" trip
The US salt plains are now no use as they have too much drag at that speed
I'm doing a little work connected with retaining and encouraging engineering skills in the UK so I hope I can keep in touch with what they are doing.
They need all the support that they can get as it is British Engineering at it’s best.

I don't think they're racing... they're muzzled canines who attack anyone that looks like a photographer taking their picture.

Maybe I've mentioned that I'm in the process of teaching my girlfriend Sani how to take photos consciously. She never had a real camera before, she's used to full auto smartphones and compact cameras. Handling a serious compact like the V1 was totally new to her. The following photos were all taken by her with the Nikon V1 and 18.5mm f/1.8, I've only given her some tips and done the post processing under her guidance and according to her taste.
Since I now have the Oly OMD E-M10, Oly 45/1.8 and Pana Leica 25mm f/1.4, Sani will be using the V1 and lenses most of the time.
