all I can say is that the 70 300mm looks very good indeed

It would be interesting to compare the lens side by side with the AF-S Nikon 300 f4 …….. but this is a non VR lens and I use mind almost exclusively on a tripod for close ups

Skink

Shot a little today with a Nikon D7000 and 200mm macro lens on one strap and the V2 and 70-300mm CX on another. It was shocking how much heavier the D7000 rig was with that all metal lens (4 lbs, 6 oz. vs 2 lbs, 1 oz.). The frame rate seemed slooooooow and autofocus was like molasses downhill in the winter.

This was with the 70-300mm CX.

Cougars

I shot these at a wildlife sanctuary. All of them were with the Nikon V2 and 70-300mm CX. All of them were though fencing, which gave me more problems focusing than I remember with my D3002/D700 and 70-200mm f/2.8 the last time I tried shooting through a fence.

Tigers

Like the cougar shots, I took these at a wildlife sanctuary. All of them were with the Nikon V2 and 70-300mm CX. All of them were though fencing, which gave me more problems focusing than I remember with my D3002/D700 and 70-200mm f/2.8 the last time I tried shooting through a fence.

I've been sneaking in some time with what is now my wife's V1 by using it as a social selfie machine. Paired with the 10mm F2.8 and the SB-N7 flash, I've managed to capture some people having fun.

I handed the camera to my wife for these last two shots at the wedding of dear friends Gregg and Mike:

I'm really happy with the SB-N7 and the V1, 10mm and flash are still a pretty small kit. And the flash is always nailing exposure and more or less takes away any low light/high ISO concerns. At this point, I much prefer a little bounce flash to trying to push ISO on the V1 or any other serious compact.

I've "borrowed" my wife's V1 again…

The auto-review of the V1 continues to annoy but I work around it. It's relatively easy in tennis where you usually have a second before the ball returns to your subject. These were with the 30-100 zoom. Really wish I had the 70-300 and the extra megapickles of the V2/V3 for this...

Seems to me the 30-110 did just fine in spite of its limitations!!

It is an annoying camera in several ways but I find it really good in other ways

It is. I hate that theres no focus ring on the lenses (except the 32mm which I can't afford). But I love its fast AF, and its size.
