nice series with great clarity. i'm very interested in the lack of distortion in 1 as it appears that is a WA shot. was there much PP or is this how it renders OOC?

LX7 First outing

First outing with the LX7, I just love the portability of this little gem, used with the LVF2 which was a godsend on this hot bright day

The more I use it, the more I like it. And, because of the wide apertures of the zoom and the stabilization, I can often get a picture which I would not be able to with my bigger cameras.

Thanks

What suprised me was the dynamic range it has, it seems better than my GX1

According to DXOmark you are correct with both at base ISO with about a 1 stop advantage to the LX7. The LX7's dynamic range is on par with the G5's -- almost 12 stops. The GX1 has almost 11 stops. The GX1 has about 2 stops better ISO performance however and much lower noise overall.

Also, although the there is that dynamic range difference, keep in mind that the LX7's base ISO is lower (by about 1 stop -- 80 vs. 160) and that dynamic range falls off quickly. By ISO 400 the GX1 has pulled ahead and by ISO 800 the GX1 is about a stop better in dynamic range. So if you are going up in ISO at all, the GX1 is a better bet.

Not knocking the LX7 at all though -- it's still an amazing small camera and I love mine.

Link here to a comparison of the three cameras I've mentioned: DxOMark - G5 vs. LX7 vs. GX1

It comes up on "Scores". Click the "Measurements" tab above the scores and then there are little links above the graph to change what you are looking at -- in case you've never navigated DXOMark.

Thanks for that John, I don't normally check things like that out but the LX7 suprised me so I spent a while there checking out various sensors etc, the latest Oly sensor seems pretty impressive as well on DxOMark, but I guess you know that using an OMD. I shoot raw and the LX7 files as ISO80 are pretty good, quite addictive these little compacts.

I love my LX7 and am keeping it; with the GX1 at 199 USD, I am selling my GF2 and getting it. I shall be able to use the LX7 viewfinder with the GX1. And yes, I still have my Nikon D7000, which stays at home most of the time.
Two more with the LX7:

Both of course lol, nothing better than going for a ride on the bike with Camera in pocket, taking in the English countryside and stopping off and having a totally unhealthy English Breakfast.
