Coolpix A

Spent the day in Philly yesterday and just took the Coolpix A. I'm gonna check out a Fuji X-70 - the more I see of that camera the more I think I'd like it. I don't think I'll like the IQ any more than the Nikon - maybe even very slightly less - but I like the controls layout a lot. I've had very very few complaints about the Coolpix A, but I think the X-70 eliminates even those... So I may or may not have the Coolpix A much longer, but it's been one of my favorite cameras ever, so I decided to simplify and just take the little Coolpix yesterday. As usual, a mix of street and non-street...

Yeah, I'd seen that Tom. So far, the only specific rumors regard zooms, almost certainly with 1" sensors, which don't interest me. I mean, they interest me, but every time I have a camera like that, I end up not using it. If they ever update the Coolpix A, whether they call it that or not, I'll take a closer look.

I am very disappointed that Nikon has apparently chosen to not update the Coolpix A. The new DL's, with a 1" sensor are not appealing at all. So I will be exploring other brands.
Nice shot Tom. I recently tried out a Fuji X70 and if you like flip up touch screens and Fuji colors, it's worth checking out. But ultimately, I think the Coolpix A, GR II, and X70 are all basically equal cameras with different specific features that some will either like more or less, but I don't think any of them stand head and shoulders above any of the others at this point. I don't see any reason to look elsewhere at this point (unless you have the the deep pockets for the Leica Q!). Someday, somebody's gonna make one of these cameras with a notably better sensor and then it MIGHT be worth moving on, but if you like your Coolpix A currently, I still think it's as good as any of the 28mm fixed lens competition...

The Coolpix A has become my regular carry-along "real" camera, with the iPhone 6s providing snaps for rapid WiFi dissemination. The Lightroom lens profile correction certainly works magic on the somewhat extreme vignetting of the raw files!
