pinhole photography discussion (and images)

Angle of view

Been doing some comparisons

Mounting the pinhole directly on the camera body 47mm focal length gives 49deg angle of view ~ 40mm lens 48deg

with 8mm extension tube 42 deg

with 16mm extension tube 37 deg ~ 50mm lens 39 deg

with 8 + 16 = 24mm extension 34 deg

with 8 +16 + 32 = 56mm extension 23 deg ~ 85mm lens 23 deg

Milan the first link is broken for me.
this has happened before, I can't remember what you need to do differently but basically it's picking up all the google referral rubbish:

just had a flash bulb moment when I remembered I had some very thin clutch pencil leads - 0.3mm

these do not thread through the last hole I made but by calc the optimum for the focal length I have 62.15mm is 0.351

so now I have a much better gauge

Pinhole is relatively simple with no focussing but its a pain to point and compose.
I also seem to forget to bring something in the bag. eg Cable release - 7 minutes holding my finger down with my arm going into spasm. (No result either).
Last time it was my watch - One Potato Two Potato
currently have a very old Kodacolour film loaded found in a drawer- could be a complete waste of time.

oh dear, you sound discouraged ... :)

I've found that once I've got to know the angle of view of the camera, and once I can set up my camera so it is square (a couple of those £1 eBay hotshoe spirit levels come in useful), composition becomes slightly less random. Because the Zero with a single 25mm frame has an aov of ~123 degrees, to begine with I was getting far too much foreground.

You could also try using a protractor to assist with composition.

I am feeling slightyl smug right now as I have a roll hanging to dry from another peregrination in the plashy common using the Zenith. Duct-Tape MLU MkIII has worked, and we'll soon see how sharp the jab-a-sewing-needle-in-a-square-of-foil pinhole is. They might be dry enough to scan later this evening.

The current 16mm extension is close to 50mm lens so I should take that with me to set up & swap lenses Thereafter adding any extensions will narrow the shot as well as darken

protractor is a good idea - a simple card cut out would work
