Is there a touch to focus option on G1XMk2? Maybe you touched the edge of the screen with your thumb?
I don't believe I had the touch-screen feature activated.
Cheers, Jock

Jock, can you see in the EXIF data of the image what focus mode the camera was set to?
Not sure if there's going to be any clue in the EXIF metadata, but if there was something like "focus mode - manual" or "macro" that could explain it?
I looked at the "properties" data with 3 different programs and saw nothing that sheds any light.
Cheers, Jock
Hmmm, I did a quick google and it looks like Canon doesn't put that data into the regular exif data.
Most of the meta data is apparently tucked away in proprietary Canon maker notes (which not all software reads out)...
Ah well
AF Mode Continuous AF
AF Range Mode Macro
Might this explain it ?
Mystery solved! This was more fun than watching an episode of CSI
See above, Judderman, as you were posting, I was noticing the same thing. Clearly my fault.
Cheers, Jock
like it wasContinuous AF might also make it tough for a shot like this - I'd pretty much always go for Single AF if there's no action in the shot. But I agree the macro must have been the culprit here...

Hey that's exactly what I was going to ask. Great minds ride a bike…or something like that.So are you going to get the camera again???

Jock, just for the heck of it, if you could take 2 more pictures of the same location with the G12 and G1X2 to compare them, that would be great, thanks!
