Nikon announces 1 V2 - a more photographer-friendly, 14MP 1 series camera: Digital Photography Review

I was looking forward to see what Nikon does with the V2. The V1 had so much potential. It seems that Nikon may have addressed all the complaints about the V1's usability for enthusiasts. But now the V2 looks sooooo ugly!!! The V1 was already "unique" due to its Tetris block look. But the V2 ... Nikon, what were you thinking? I don't think Ashton Kucher will want to make commercials with the V2!

The perfect street camera for the more dangerous parts of the world. No one will try the "grab and run away thing". I liked the minimalistic bauhaus design of the V1. The V2 addresses some of the technical shortcomings of the V1 and improves the AF even further. If Nikon continues to add very fast primes (a 32mm f1.2 seems to be in the works) and long zooms (200-600 equivalent), definitely a system to keep an eye on.

Sure it looks clunky, but I welcome the idea of a real grip. If the user interface is bearable this might have something going for it: good continuous AF and even smaller than µ4/3. Of course they'll have to come up with some serious glass and they act like they intend to: a wide-angle zoom and a superfast short telephoto are announced as well. Will take some time though, look at how long it took for Olympus and Panasonic to have a reasonably complete µ4/3 lens line-up.

can't have been easy to design something so spectacularly ugly - but at the same time it looks a thousand times more appropriate for enthusiasts than the V1; they really needed something with much better ergonomics and both EVF and flash (not either/or) to be able to offer something over the RX100. I'm not really up to date with Nikon's lens line-up, but they might have something here.

Don't understimate Ashton - anything to get the <strike>big bucks</strike> shot.

most cameras that are marketed to the masses are ugly. Why should this one be the exception. It looks like it will be an awesome camera though. That 1" sensor size will be a sweet spot for many.

I guess the J1/2 is the soccer mom's dream then! :)

But I disagree that cameras made for the masses are all ugly. Most of the P&S cameras are pretty nice looking. The J1/2 are nice looking. Even the V1 is nice, but odd looking. With the prices of the V1 dropping so low, it might be time to re-get one!

Speaking of which, more lenses for the Nikon 1 system, including a F1.2 portrait lens! That should be nice!

I think I'm going to wait until the V2 is out, then pick up a V1. Prices seem to be busting under 50% of the original retail now. The 50mm equivalent lens should hopefully be out soon as well.

Build quality of the V1 is wow. I know, I got one. It's an amazing camera that offers tomorrow features today. I will put V2 on my wishlist. Nikon thanks!
