News Fuji 14mm Sample Shots

ouch to the $899. I don't love wide-angle THAT much. I may pick up the cheapo fisheye and then just de-fish. For how rarely I shoot wide, I can find something else to spend the extra $600 on.

I LIVE for wide angle. My only question is whether I want to expand my Fuji as a system or keep it as a limited change of pace alternative to the m43 stuff. I already have an Olympus 9-18, but adding this to my Fuji kit gives me a pretty awesome 3 lens kit that covers everything but telephoto. If it works within the OVF, I'll probably end up with it. I'm pretty committed not to getting zooms or any primes that only work with the EVF on this cam, but if this fits within the OVF, it's probably just a matter of how and when, not if. I love the focus ring too, although it doesn't seem nearly as important on the Fuji with its electronic distance scale or on this wide a lens.

Yeah, I'm really debating on this one. I'm sure it's worth the $899 but I just don't think I would use it all that much. I have a pretty good manual focus 20mm Nikon. So if I want to go that wide I'll probably just use that. The manual focus on a lens like that really isn't a problem. That wide even wide open everything is basically in focus.....:) I have it on pre-order but I may just get an X-E to stick the 28mm on so I don't have to change lenses. I wish they had released the 23mm and 27mm first. I'm happy with the 60mm. But will definitely be getting the 56mm. Oddly enought the one I'm really interested in is the 27mm. I can live with F2.8 because the lens is so small. I have a Voigtlander 40mm I use on my Nikon all the time. I really like that focal length. It's an odd one but I've gotten used to it. In the end, I'll probably pass on it. Actually I've gotten a bit interested in the zoom after seeing some sample photos with it. I'm still not sure I would use it because it's F4 at the long end.

I think they are doing something like a 10-20mm later this year but it's F4. I'm guessing it will cost about the same. I just always regret buying zoom lenses because I never end up using them. I am forcing myself to use the Nikon 24-70 today and tomorrow to see if I want to keep it. I'm narrowing down my Nikon lenses to what I actually use (novel idea no????? :) ). I'm sticking it on Fuji S5 which I guess makes it 35-105mm. Anyway....I have some thinking to do on the 14mm. I do really want it, but at $899 I have to decide if that can wait. 23, 27, and 56 I will buy. I already have the money set aside for those.

Early days, but I would bet on it being a very good lens. The price seems in line with lenses of this quality.

I am more interested in the 23, 27, and 60. When I shot m/43 the 40 length grew on me via the Pana 20, so the 27 intrigues me. It looks like Fuji is building up to a very nice range of lenses.

I think the 27 is going to be surprise popular lens. It's small, compact, and just fast enough. It will probably focus close too. Honestly, that's the lens I'm most excited about.

I've always been most comfortable with zooms at ultra-wide angle focal lengths because framing is super-critical. A change of only 1mm makes a big difference.

I've found with my Canon 16-35 and Panasonic 7-14 most of my shots are either all the way wide or all the way zoomed. I drooled over the UWA primes for Canon for quite some time but they are just so freaking expensive....

I'm going to jump on the Fuji 14mm as soon as I can find one. While it cost more than other Fujinons, it still seems like a good deal. For that matter the Fujinon XF35mm (the only Fuji I have at this time) is way underpriced IMHO.

Yep, I've found the same. My 9-18 is a binary lens it seems, generally either at 9mm or 18, with only the very occasional stop in between at around 14 usually. I think a 21 equivalent would do well - about as wide as you can go before it starts looking vaguely cartoonish but still pulls a LOT of space and geometry into the frame. I suspect if I get this lens, it will be on the camera quite a bit.

depends of the price too ofc
(and IQ)

i hope it's only around 399 or less ;)

I would be thrilled with the just the 14 mounted on one and the 56 on the other, would keep the 18 and 35 in the bag, not sure about whether to keep the 60 after I get the 56 or not. At this point I do not think I want a 27, might as well just hang on to my X100 fo5 those simple "35mm" . I am having a harder time thinking about which M4/3 lens I want to hang onto for the OMD. At this point looks like I will keep the 100-300, 75, 12, and 7-14, sell the 17, 20, maybe the 45 and 12-50, give away the 9-18, but even that list seems like more than I will shoot with, I guess I could get down to just the 75 and 12.

I was curious about this lens but 900$ is just too steep for me. I am investigating the voigtlander 15mm options around 500$ or the rokinon/samyang 14mm 2.8 at 400$ish but it is rather large ane unwieldly i imagine on an xe1.
