Toasters

Because nice bread isn't usually the mass produced damp stuff that fits nicely in a toaster!

Very true. The toaster in question does cater for bread sliced to a thickness of my liking. But I still need to cut the top (or bottom) to get it in. Don't the toaster designers eat real bread :-(

In the old days when I had more energy, I used to bake my own bread (dough mixed by hand) using home grown yeast. When properly done, a wonderful toasted flavour was suffused into the bread and especially in the hard, crunchy, dark, crust; entirely removing any need to toast the bread at all. The only recommended addition was Normandy butter.

Ah, those were the days.

Since our kitchen is small and countertop space at a premium, we use a toaster oven in place of a toaster. So the size of the bread is never a problem. As an added bonus, I can reheat leftover pizza in there instead of the microwave and it doesn't get soggy (y)

Still, when I see an elegant toaster design, I wish we had a bit more counter space.

I would like that glass toaster. It is beautiful, the most beautiful toaster I've seen.. I would go through loaves of bread just to see it work. But doesn't seem very practical unless it toasts under 30 seconds and hopefully the glass is removable so cleaning won't be a problem. Hey Luke, I bet you could heat up your leftover pizza in that thing.

I was going to suggest a toaster oven. I don't have one though. I either bake for instance garlic bread in loaves or.. often I will panfry bread slices with butter. Yumm.

I have a name brand cheap toaster at work, and if you're not toasting 2 slices of Wonder bread you either have to cut the slice in half or cram it down the slot in what resembles a ball of bread. Not to make the same mistake at home, I purchased an awesome toaster that will accommodate 4 slices of bread/bagels regardless of size or two medium size squirrels if so desired...
