Yeah, you're getting REAL good at this. Great feel to these. Love the second one, in particular...

I never had much luck with the S90 as a street camera - you don't seem to be held back by the S100 at all...

Thanks, Chris and Ray. I am getting the hang of shooting from the hip, although I have a Flipbac LCD mirror that serves as a flip out LCD of sorts to help with framing. I never had an S-series Canon until now, and got it in order to have a truly pocketble RAW camera..been very pleased with everything but the slow max aperture on the long end of the zoom.

James- it's a really great camera, with an excellent feature set. Mind you, it is quite small, so controls and handling are not for everyone (I have small hands, so not too much of a problem, though I have added a Flipbac grip and Garriz soft release). Best thing is its pocket ability and RAW capability- my pocket RAWcket (sorry, couldn't resist!) :)

Gary, thanks a lot. I think part of it is advice you and Ray and many photographers through time have given: always carry a camera with you. The key reason I got the S100 was I was getting tired of shooting all my serendipitous images on my iPhone (it has a decent camera, but very limited). The S100 is small enough so I can put it in the pocket of the suit I have to wear as my daytime disguise.

So better equipment improved your photography ... lol.

Gary

PS- Pocket RAWket is pretty good.

Must have been Gary - I've never given anyone that advice... I'm one who is either out with a camera with the express intent to make photographs, or I'm not. When I'm not, I don't like to spend my limited brain power trying to see photographically - sometimes its nice to just observe the beauty around me without trying to find that portion of it that will fit effectively in a frame. So, that wasn't me, but if it works for you that way, that's all that matters.

As for the camera, I never had much luck with the S90 mostly because of rather extreme shutter lag, even in manual focus mode. You'd press the shutter release as just the right moment and the camera would actually trip the shutter when IT was good and ready. Even in manual focus it was slow as molasses. It has a sort of workable distance scale and manual focus control but shutter lag is a street shooters worst enemy - at least mine. I replaced the S90 with an LX5 and the difference was night and day - the LX5 was a wonderful street camera. But in the test I recently did of the G15, it was a much snappier camera than the S90 was and my understanding (not based on personal experience) was that the G11 and G12 out at the same time were also quite slow, so maybe this is just something that Canon generally got its act together on. It seems like the S100 / 110 must be better in this regard.

But, regardless, you're getting really fine results out of it and it clearly isn't getting in your way, which is what we all ask of our gear. But your eye and feel for the moment is clearly THERE! Great stuff...

That's what I like about the camera, it's the smallest/thinnest compact that I know of that I can fit in my shirt pocket that has raw and 24fps video.
