The 43 Rumors web site is reporting that Panasonic will soon be announcing a high-end compact camera with a fixed lens and built-in EVF. For a while, it was believed this camera would have a four-thirds sensor. But it now appears (remember, this is a rumors site - albeit a reputable one) the new camera will have a 1/1.7" sensor - the same size as the LX7.

(FT5) Panasonic LF1 has 1/1.7 inch sensor (like the LX7) | 43 Rumors

So... would you be interested in what is essentially an LX7 with a built-in viewfinder and the very latest sensor, even if a 1/1.7"? I might be - if the camera is the same size as the LX7 and the price doesn't stray too far beyond $500.

Not sure this is that much of an improvement if u consider that the lx7 has a evf option. It uses the evf from their m43 product line. Outside of less bulk because it is built in and maybe less expensive than buying the two (lx7+evf)???

I like cameras with viewfinders, but I'm not a fan of small sensor cameras. I'll sit this round out. If the rumors are wrong and it is a m43 sized sensor, that would be a totally different question for me, but possibly still the same answer.

I bought LX7 for the lens-size-price combination. (298$ on special)
Any changes will ruin this combo at least for me. It was nice to have a compact less pricy than any of my m43 lenses...
LX7 is great as a memory recorder or kind of...

My LX7 is for small portability. I certainly don't want a larger one, and if I want a viewfinder I'll pick up the G5 or the E-M5.

Temporarily I am in that "Nirvana" described by Steve (Biro) on our weekend outing where I'm actually very happy with all my cameras. We'll see how long THAT lasts, lol...

Thanks John,
It's not like I'm looking for a unicorn. I couldn't care less if a new perfect camera would replace a current perfect camera. But it just seems like every camera has one or two stupid flaws that could be eliminated with a little forethought. And then there's the intangible dept....can't account for that.

I'm not asking for laws of the physical world to be shattered. I don't want a pants pocketable camera with an f1.1 28-104mm lens and a full frame sensor. But sometimes it's easy to hung up on the little tiny bits of the camera that we use every day. There's way too many examples to limit myself to a couple.

I'm finally coming around to the idea that EVERY camera will always be a FAIL (don't ask me to explain the acronym...a sailor would be offended), so maybe I should just live with the horrible failures I've already got.

Are you listening camera designers.....ALL of your cameras are failures. AND I'm done buying more.

Thanks John,

I've thought about this a lot. And I think this issue with flaws is no accident. Part of it is that the Asian cameramakers are designing a lot of things for the home market and what goes there doesn't necessary fly here. But I also think the cameramakers are doing this on purpose - so that we keep looking for "the one."

Currently, the best we can do is to gather up a few cameras that cover most of the bases for us. As John referred to above, I think I have finally done that. I'd like to add an OM-D not too far down the road (after I pay for a new set of car tires). But, after that, I really believe I'll be set for a while - genuinely happy with the photo gear I have even while acknowledging the excellence of a lot of newer products. This happened to me once before... and it actually lasted about three years.
