Not a reason for me to sell my current RX100.

But it's possible the new RX1-R will be announced, too. Though I won't be able to afford it, I'm very interested in hearing what this camera is.

If that is the extent of the improvements I will be disappointed. I like a tilt screen, but not that big a deal. Hotshoe and wifi---meh. I was hoping Sony would have figured a way to squeeze a little more speed in to that lens at the long end. Guess not.

To be honest, I expected (and hoped) that Sony would first concentrate on getting out more models with the 1" type sensor; for instance a larger model with considerably more zoom, or an LX7-sized model with a faster lens. If, a year after the RX100's introduction, all they can come up with is a reiteration with some fancy bits added to it, that'd be disappointing (although I do love me a good tilting / rotating screen!). Sony have the opportunity to totally dominate the enthusiasts' compact market, but if this rumor is true, they're not following through (yet).

Unfortunately, none of the rumoured improvements are of interest to me. What I'd like to see is a lens which is faster at the telephoto end, a control dial or two and a grip. If that means a slightly larger camera, that's fine.

I believe the last truly original idea occured in the spring of 1968. Ever since, everyone simply copies anyone who has even moderate success by re-treading or updating an older idea. In digital cameras, the current rage is removing the AA filter from the camera - any camera, regardless of design or intent. The word "pathetic" keeps coming to mind for me.

I thought there was more. Like a new sensor. Of those items listed though, the tilt LCD would be awesome. Not enough to upgrade but still awesome.

Personally, I don't even see why Sony is releasing a new model. The RX100 still has no real competition. If I were Sony I would design a new version but neither produce it or announce it. I would wait for a competitor to announce their "RX100 killer" and then hold a press conference 2 days later to announce the new model to kill their "RX100 killer". But Sony being Sony likes to release new models constantly whether they need to or not.

Preamble: what follows is said as a happy Sony owner (RX100) so is in no way an indictment on the brand, manufacturer, or people who choose to own a Sony...

But Sony being Sony likes to release new models constantly whether they need to or not.
Well they are a gadget/appliance manufacturer after all; so work to that R&D and marketing ethos.
