Got my Sony RX100 today

Hi,

I have been so excited to get this camera. Of course, I was really looking forward to playing with the Illustration and Watercolor effects, and I can't seem to find them. Before I drive myself bonkers looking, does anyone know if those features have been discontinued or something? They do not appear in the menu of picture effects. I'll be pretty bummed if they are no longer included...

They are definitely there. It depends on how you have your camera configured to tell you where they are hidden. I access mine with the lens barrel control wheel. But if you do a quick menu dive, you can access them no matter how you have your camera set-up. Hit the menu button, go to camera menu number 3 and scroll down to "picture effect" and then click right to enter the endless maze of picture effects. Let me know if you have anymore problems. I took a TON of photos in illustration mode this weekend. I look like I'm going to make my own comic book. I'll start a thread expressly dedicated to the Sony picture effects tomorrow for the filterheads out there. Enjoy your new camera! I have 2 very nice system cameras that have been gathering dust since I got mine.

my Fn button is also programmed to bring up the picture efect menu and you scroll through them all that way with a few less clicks, but again, yours may not be set up that way. I'm sure there are many ways your camera can be programmed. I bought mine used and it was set up pretty intuitively so I haven't changed too much....and those things that I have changed, I have already forgotten.

I only use these effects after shooting normally.
On playback of the picture you want to convert go to the playback menu and the option is available . You can use the option more than once even alternating between the effects to create a different look

Page 150 of the PDF manual describes how to do this...:)

Congrats on the new 'baby'. I used it as my sole camera on a 4 week cruise recently and didn't miss my m43 kit.

I'm glad I'm not the only one :)

I've done my last couple of vacations without m43, and just sold off some m43 gear. The RX100 has become simply my favorite camera. My last trip to the cape, I brought my 6D w/50mm lens for low light and portrait, and the RX100 for everything else.

I'm keeping the OMD w/9-18, 100-300 and macro, because I think these are areas where this kit excels, but I'm finding I just love the RX100. It's lightweight, gets out of the way, and does so much in it's tiny little package. I also find, oddly enough, that it handles the bright light of mid-day in terms of colors better than my OMD.
