Sony What is acceptable "scratches" on new camera??

Hello Everyone,
I'm fairly new and some of you have read my post on deciding to buy my RX100.
Well I did and today whilst using it for the VERY first time I noticed some scratching on the lens barrel. I'm sorry if I get my terms wrong.
So now I'm left wondering do I do something about it? Am I making too much out of it? The scratches are only micro mm at most. But I guess what gets me is that it's brand new!
Have others had similar and is it acceptable? Am I being too "precious of my shiny new toy"?
Interested to hear thoughts...

I've had mine for quite a good while now and get's used a lot but there is no scratching on the lens barrel micro mm or otherwise, I've checked under the my magnifying lamp and can't see any. I'm not saying for certain but perhaps you have been given a ex-demo model or a tiny bit of grit/sand etc has been caught on the lens barrel while it was receding back into the body. Does it feel smooth when the lens retracts as you power down. If it is a shop you bought it from I'd take it back showing them your concerns.

Irene, take a look at this article which I found quite illuminating

Dirty lens article

Hi Boid thanks for that. An interesting article. But I'm not talking about scratches on the lens/ glass itself rather the outside...and I guess my expectation that there shouldn't be any on a brand new cam.

Nothing sold to you as brand new - whether it's camera or a car - should be damaged in any way.

It's either a customer return or ex-demo by the sounds of things.

Ask for a replacement and if they refuse, return the camera and get your money back.

Hmm yep the more I think about it the more I am going to take it back and show them. The thing is though, the box had the "Sony seal" untouched so supposedly not a demo.

Will see what happens tomorrow.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
