Sony External flashes

So, I've been using one of my Canon 600EX-RT flashes as a manual flash (all I've got). I've been looking at pairing the RX1 up with the little HVL-F20M for relatively close off-camera flash and TTL. Big flashguns feel ridiculous with this camera, and makes bag space requirements much higher. Has anyone used one of those little guys?

Also, a quick shot from the weekend, Paradiso at the Gorge in WA. I realized I haven't actually posted anything yet!

The compression is terrible, I saved it off my FB. I'll get more up soon... I swear... haha

Nothing huh? Other than the small footprint and overall image quality, the leaf-shutter sync speeds were the #1 selling point here for me... Figured someone else would be experimenting with flashes!

For that shot? 1/2000 I think. I've shot a few at 1/4000 as well. I loooooooooooooove the leaf shutter. Makes a speedlight feel so much more powerful than it is!

Hm....You use a Canon 600EX-RT...do you use it in the hot shoe?

I've got a 430EXII and a few manual Yongnuo's and some triggers but I'd much rather use the onboard flash to trigger the Yongnuo's due to having the EVF on the camera.

What's your actual set up?

Yeah, I'm currently using the canon off-camera cable (short coiled one) with the hotshoe. I havent spent much time trying to get things to trigger via onboard flash. I cannot get the ST-E3-RT to trigger the 600ex's (expected to not work). It works, all the way up to 1/4000" at f4 and above, but i want to figure out which radio triggers work best. I've considered getting some sony flashes (hvl-f20m to trigger other ones, like the new hvl-f43m), but thats a lot more money to invest in speedlights.

I'll try playing with flash trigger when I get home.

Can you tell me more about this canon cable that works with the RX1?

Also, have you seen the hot shoe adapter that makes the special hot shoe more universal so that other flashes work with the RX1?

It's just the basic 3ft coiled canon TTL flash cable. It only transfers the trigger, I havent been able to get it to do any more than basic flash triggering, but I'm trying to figure out more.

Thanks klap....I ended up getting two adapters; one from Multi-function to sony A, and one from sony A to normal flash hotshoe, plus I bought a HVL-43MA flash too. I should be covered.

I also discovered that turning down the flash exposure compensation to -3 allows it to trigger slave flashes while not really showing in the image....that's what I've been doing for a day or two.

i actually need to pick one of those up so i can use my hvl-f43am with the new mirrorless ff alpha coming out later.

why didn't you get the f43m over the f43am? you wouldn't have needed the adapter. the price probably would have evened out. plus, you'd have that video light.

Oh....I didn't know the difference...darn!

I might sell it and just buy the m version then.
