Bill Eppridge, who was best known for his haunting photograph of a busboy kneeling beside the mortally wounded Senator Robert F. Kennedy, died Thursday at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut. He was 75.

Mr. Eppridge, a staff photographer for Life magazine, stood his ground that night in 1968 and photographed the senator as he lay on the kitchen floor of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, going into what he described to NPR in a 2008 interview as a “state of mental overdrive” where he worked on instinct...

The photo with Kennedy and the busboy is quite amazing if one was to ignore the tragedy of the scene.

The high contrast lighting and isolation of the subjects. It's just amazing. Actually it's even more amazing when you take the tragedy of the scene into account.

that main really is a showstopper, but I'm amazed at the rest of them. There's a few that I assume were taken shortly before the shooting. It's s small piece of a much larger body of work. It's pretty neat to see all those shots that weren't published.

Compounding the RFK tragedy is the multitude of photos taken by J.S. Enyart, forcibly taken from him by LAPD, then destroyed. The news stories say stolen, but under the circumstances the more obvious explanation.
