I hope this makes Ricoh a lot of money which they can then spend on developing new interesting cameras, like a 50mm equivalent GR, or a new GXR, or a fullframe Pentax model... but since the price isn't much higher than the regular price, I doubt it. Ah well, hope someone had a fun afternoon coming up with this. If more effort than that went into it, that's probably a shame.

I've often wondered what segment limited edition cameras are targeted to. I kind of understand the Leica ones, which are clearly targeted to the folks who are just collecting cameras.

Is this the quickest way to get a hood if you live in the US? :)

Seriously, not sure how many GR users are looking for bling on their cameras, but at least Ricoh priced it reasonably given the bundled accessories.

It's interesting to me how public forums seem to invite a large percentage of critics. Maybe it's just human nature to feel the need to put things down that are new or different. Being a new member of this forum I had imagined that the outlook of a photographer's artistic perspective might be broader than what I have witnessed on most other public forums I have joined over the years. Maybe not, at least not in this case.

Ricoh seems to be interested in using the camera body of the GR as a canvas. Along with the prosaic black rectangle of most compact cameras, they try to offer an alternative appearance now and then. Their design team has a sense of playfulness and the possible. Good for them.

I have already pre-ordered one of these. I have a new black GR as well. I will use the green one for my "lost in the woods" outings, which seems fitting with the green color and the wood grip. Considering that the price is really no higher than a standard GR when Ricoh includes in the offer the leather strap, leather case and lens hood, I couldn't resist. I bet that green camera body in the brown leather case will be very appealing and a stand out, aside from the smile that having something unique often provides.

It's just in good fun. Most of the posters on this thread are long time members (look at their join dates -- everyone's 2010 or 2011), and it's like they are hanging around a water cooler laughing about some stuff. I wouldn't get too wrapped up around it.

Welcome to the forum Ghostdog. I'm happy and glad you like your GR and the limited edition one as well. MANY GR users here.

Like WT21 wrote, we laugh and poke fun at gear, photos, and each other. It's all in good fun. Just wait until we start discussing the Jon Ive designed Leica!!

I like Ive's design sensibility, but for some reason it doesn't work on that Leica for some reason (at least, IMO)

If the person who bids enough to win that has their feelings hurt by a complete stranger (and possible nutjob:D) and his opinion about a camera, then he or she has bigger problems than their questionable taste in blinged-out luxury cameras.

It's interesting to me how public forums seem to invite new members whose first post is used not to introduce themselves, but to criticize the forum's users. ;)
