November Nocturne - Night 12

Biking home one night in January? February? This calendar year but I forget which month last winter.

Beautiful stark image. It has something of a cinematic quality for me, as well - I could see this being a still from a classic Ingmar Bergman film. There's something about the white diffused overhead lights coming down out of the total darkness of the trees - and then the white of the snow alongside the dark of the path. Really nice.

Cocktail

Didn't get a chance to shoot anything last night so this is a slightly recycled picture from a few months ago, taken when some friends were visiting and we went out for drinks at a nice restaurant. And I had a 'legacy' lens on my E-PL2 - a manual-focus Pentax 50mm f/1.7 - which always manages to create very cool bokeh effects.

The photo also reminds me of a quote attributed to the great Spanish film director, Luis Buñuel, who is reputed to have said -

“If you were to ask me if I'd ever had the bad luck to miss my daily cocktail, I'd have to say that I doubt it; where certain things are concerned, I plan ahead.”

This is a great image. I think it seems like a still from and old movie too.
Nice

This was taken tonight. Blue light fountain with overcast skies.

Nice! Brings back memories of the fountain in the square in Anna, IL. It wasn't as grand as this, but it had lights that shone up into it, rotating between red, yellow, blue, and green, I think. My late husband and his best friend and I used to go get bar-b-que and then go sit and watch the fountain several times every summer. Then "all of a sudden" there was a fence around the fountain, and somehow it wasn't as pleasant any more. Years later I found out why. Somebody I used to work with had gotten drunk one night and poured a bottle of dish soap in the fountain! He said it was pretty cool until he saw the cops arrive and figured it was time to skedaddle.

Interesting.

I like them both quite a lot, actually. The black & white as a purity, almost classic; but the color has intense tones, extreme colors almost bordering on surreal or sci-fi. A completely different feel to the photograph, I think.

They're both quite cool, in different ways.

I like that quote.

And here's the color version of the same scene (different shot that I didn't convert to b&w):
