Sony Who doesn't have a RX100?

I was out snapping today. I noticed that someone else was using a RX100. I see people using one all the time now. She was in a group of 4 people. So I said "Hey, you have an RX100 too." She said it was a great camera, who doesn't have one? 3 other people in her group of 4 had RX100's too. The person that didn't had a Canon DSLR. They teased her about it.

I have an X100S that serves as my "small camera". The RX100 though is one of Sony's few real "hits" in the cameras they've released it seems. Some have had accolades but I think that one really sells.

This seems to be turning into a discussion of who DOES have one. I DON'T, but I had one briefly and never liked it at all, despite its amazing sensor (which I'm now enjoying a lot in the much more versatile, and much larger, RX10). But we didn't get rid of it entirely - I gave it to my wife who doesn't care about interface or interaction with the camera and who just likes to put it on automatic and snap away. She's pretty happy with it, so we still have one in the family.

I also had the original RX100 - for one day. While the handling and user interface didn't thrill me, I could have probably lived with it. For me, it was a case of buyer's remorse. The RX100, with case and proper external battery charger (which the camera should come with but doesn't) came to nearly $900. That was too much for me given the class of camera, despite its great sensor. I tend to buy my compacts on sale or on closeout for much less than list. But there's no arguing that the RX100 - even the original model - is a great camera.

Like John I have the X100s and it suits me fine as my compact even though it's not pocketable. Had the new GR but it felt kinda small in the hand and when I tried out the Rx100 at the store it felt really small. heard it makes great images though!

I went out one day with the express intention of buying it. Played with it in the shop, didn't really get a feel for it, didn't buy, went to a different store to look at cameras, found the Nikon1 J1 twin kit (that is, 10-30 and the 10mm prime) on sale for half what it would have cost me to get the RX, so I got that instead. Have not regretted it, though I use the V1 a lot more since I bought that. I don't think I'll ever have an RX100, but the RX10 does interest me... when/if its price drops. I don't see the value in the current.

I've also kept my X100, which I love, and my GRD3, and my XZ-1 which is getting dodgy now.... and my K-5... and my FZ100.... I don't really think I have room for more cameras!! LOL!

Me.

As in "I don't have one". The point and shoots I've had and like -- the XZ1 and the X10 and X20 -- had faster zooms. I know, smaller sensors, but that's less important to me than the slow RX100 zoom.

I've been a Fuji fan boy (or fan man?) lately. As a result, I got the cheaper XF1 as my pocketable camera. I was tempted by the RX100, but never got on with the GUI system of that camera. Plus, at the time I liked (and still do) the idea of the manual zoom lens of the XF1 (many people hate it).

I've always liked Sony for their innovation, but never purchased any of their cameras until recently (the A7).

I like the fact that you can put it on automatic and get pretty amazing results out of it. Or if you want to have more control you can. I don't want an RX10 - too big. I'd put up with a slower zoom to have an EVF though. This sensor with a 24-120 zoom and an EVF would be my ultimate compact.

I'd put up with a bigger body - maybe something along the lines of an X100. This sensor with a 24 wide and anywhere from 90-120 long would be my ultimate compact too. If it had fast glass (similar to the LX7) and a control layout I could love... I'm really impressed with the RX10, but it's too big for me too, unless it was gonna replace a big part of my m43 system, which it wont. But this sensor has all sorts of potential - I'm really looking forward to Sony at some point deciding to license it to other manufacturers... I'd love to see what Panasonic or Fuji would do with it...
