But I would like to email Michael Clarke and congratulate him and the rest of his team - they have been fantastic

Boys against Men comes to mind - or is it Men against Boys!

England were pathetic - they are a disgrace - the England women would have done better

Australia were magnificent

Thank God I'm a Yorkshireman first and an Englishman second - Although Root was as bad as the rest

Makes you want to emigrate

Bill I think it's been tired jaded complacent men against spirited enthusiastic men.

Paul, not picking on anyone in particular, but a quote from TMS

"Every time we've said in this series about Ravi, 'how on earth has he got out there?' there's no excuse for ever lifting your foot in that situation. That's a village cricket error. If England lose this game Ravi Bopara should be hung, drawn and quartered."

Oh how TMS' standards have slipped, though ... that should be "hanged, drawn and quartered".

I realise as a solid expat Brit you wouldn't normally be seen dead reading The Guardian, Bill, but have a read of Barney Ronay's article in yesterday's Sports section: England are good at playing a straight bat when it comes to the blame game | Barney Ronay

Fortunately the quote was from an ex Aussie fast bowler - so we can excuse the poor grammar etc., as they are all descended from ? (us)

I could never read the Guardian - too many words and not enough "pictures" - anyway I was born in Yorkshire!

am I allowed to swear on this Forum!

it's damp and my left knee is "playing up" (old war wound)

Though to be fair Root did manage to put together a score in this one.

It's all in their heads - last ODI, no Clarke, no Watson they controlled it and won it. This one, Clark and Watson back and their heads go again, even though neither of them did particularly well.

Ronay's piece in the Guardian is spot on (and as a expat Brit I'm a regular reader of the Grauniad - mostly the sports pages though.)

I never understood why anyone would want to watch cricket, or listen to it on the radio unless trying to induce a hypnotic trance. I am, however, an avid Guardianista. I had a curt chat with the paper shop bloke yesterday who tried to get me to buy something else. I pointed at each paper - right wing, right wing Murdoch, soft porn, Scottish parochial lightweight, cartoon... etc etc. We don't half print some rubbish. Thank goodness for the few good papers, including those of a different political stance to my own, holding people to account. Nobody else is going to do it!

yes but you're Scottish, so that's perfectly understandable. You don't have the gene.

[my Father came from Stirling, so I obviously inherited my genetic predisposition from my English Mother]

They needed 218

they were 154 for 3

then lost 2 wickets for 2 runs

157 for 5

needed 61 in 71 balls

they lost 3 wickets for 20 runs, then the bowlers started batting with Ravi

and after Broad went they needed - 14 from 18

They were pathetic

I don't understand a word of it, but I'll trust that it's as accurate as your helpful comments on the bird thread.

it's significantly more comprehensible than that game the Russians invented - base-ball I believe it is called ...

anyhoo, I want to know if it is a rumour that Bill won't be speaking to any Australians or whether it's news that he won't ?

 I googled the match, and if the title had not contained the words "Australians" and "win" I would still be wondering.

There is not an appropriate section in the Forum for general chat!!

A long time ago, England convicted all their best sporting talent of stealing loaves of bread and sent them down here for punishment. A few centuries later they still send their cricket team down here for punishment but nowadays we make them go home afterwards because we already have all the good players we need :D.
