Welcome to the 25th SC Salon Challenge..... the theme is "Young and Old"

Anything goes, can be people, objects, situations, abstract, conventional or whatever …….. remember "it's the image that counts"

The salon starts today Feb 4th and shall run for a little less than 2 weeks, ending on Saturday Feb 18th.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rules are simple................

1. Either take a picture that matches the nominated theme or select one from your portfolio. You must be the photographer that created the picture in order to enter it.

2. There are several ways to add your photos to the current salon thread: 1. upload your entry to your SC user gallery (all entries must be present in an SC gallery), which you automatically get if you are registered on the SC forum, so if you aren`t registered you will need to if you would like to join the fun. (Don't know about the "gallery" yet? Then read this: SC Gallery FAQ please read it carefully if you are new to using the site's software.) 2. embed from Flickr or another similar web hosting photo site and 3. use the attachment method. All three are explained here:How to post images in forum threads

3. Only one entry per salon, please. If you want to withdraw an entry and replace it with another, that is OK, but you must make it clear in the post containing your replacement picture that this is what you've done. You can add or change the title and add to the edit line to let everyone know.

4. The decision of the curator at the end of the challenge is final - don't give him/her a hard time about it: this is just a friendly photo challenge, after all!

5. The person who submitted the chosen picture will assume the responsibility of curator for the next Salon Challenge and as soon as possible post a message in a new thread in the SC Photo Challenges forum, with details of the new theme. Don't forget - that opening message must include a copy of these instructions, which also double as the rules.

6. The curator can't enter his or her own salon. (like Hell)

7. Please, don´t be shy...Participate and have fun!

8. Each salon should be open for about two weeks.

Good Luck to All

Here's mine - just for reference - a very conventional interpretation - A French Market Square in the Summer

(I won't bore you with my Mother feeding a young bird shot!! anyway it was taken with my D300!!)

Thumb and Arm

The thumb belongs to my son, Rafe. The arm belongs to his newborn daughter, Opal - she was approximately 1 week old when I took this picture - and, yes, her arm is the same size as her father's thumb....!

Hi All

The contest has ended and I feel that I am not really qualified to judge any photo competition, so I can only give you my personal choice, (confirmed by my wife – so I must be correct!!).

Not too many entries and mainly in B & W.
All quite predictable interpretations with nothing “off the page”

I am out in South Africa at the moment in the Swartzberg mountains, 100 kms back from the coast. Very, very rural and the internet connection is really at the end of a copper wire and SLOW…… I typed this script on the Forum twice but lost it as the connection went down ……. waiting for it to come back on to post this ……. It is on for a couple of minutes then off. The guy at the place were we are staying said that a local farmer hit one of his “towers” and that is the problem …… anyway it’s not great.

So my choice,

B & W …….I really like the angle the image has been taken at and it seems really natural. There is not only the age comparison emphasised but also the physical comparison and expressions ……. They appear to be in conversation both studying what the other has said.
Technically I like the composition, it is well balanced and the B & W presentation is good
Hands in pockets and hands out of

And so my declared winner is the one below taken by John who goes by the Forum name of mnhoj

So my congratulations to John, well done and good luck with the next challenge as Moderator!
