Film Leica Digilux 2 with Mk II

Thanks Bill

there is one for sale at £400, in good nick with box etc.,

I'm thinking about it as I have not really found an SC that I "really like" - (apart from the Canon S95)

I'd say go for it. If you sell on in a few months you are likely to be broadly cash neutral. I bought mine last year (I had an LC-1 originally, from new - they are identical on the inside, but I preferred the all-black finish and the slightly larger grip).

Have a look at Thorsten Overgaard's Digilux 2 pages, a great resource.

...as for the level of detail you can expect from that tiny 5mp sensor...

A couple of caveats... It can't take SDHC cards, you are restricted to SD, and 2GB cards at most. In practice this is not an issue... The jpg engine is really good - raw is not necessary. The buffer is quite small, so no high speed sequences. It is a considered camera in use, but all the more pleasurable for that.

this camera has many fans, and i used one years ago to good result. however, you should also be aware that evf technology has come a very long way. i personally, even then, found the evf generally a little dark, glitchy and very laggy. and in poor light i found it exceedingly frustrating. many dont care about this, but my personal preference is to know as much as i can, good and not so good, before i purchase so im not disappointed.

They still command a pretty penny here in Australia too. You can find them for $500 if you are lucky. I've come THIS close to buying a DL2 on three occasions now. Still regret not doing so every single time….and being bereft of one today.

Another thing to note in the 'quirks' column - beyond the EVF and SD card restriction - is that its ISO is only usable to 400...and that's stretching it! But ISO100 is superb….sort of sounds like the Foveon DPxMs don't it?

Great photo of an incredibly beautiful kitteh.

I remember discussing over the phone with a British record dealer the condition of a rare LP I wanted to purchase. He said it was in pretty good nick and I said that I didn't want a nicked up record.....I wanted a clean one. He laughed.
Oh you Americans, you're so quaint. :laugh1:

Indeed. However this has never been conclusively proven. I can look at images taken with my old LC-1 and my "new" D2 and I cannot discern a difference. There will always be such speculation. However there is today, only one proven difference apart from the ones I have listed - the D2 has held its price better over the years.

I notice that, strategically, the OP asked about the DL2 w/- MkII sensor. Does anyone know if Leica is still honouring the sensor upgrade? Just wondering in the event that a seller isn't sure if theirs has been replaced.
