Wide, fast, small . . . suggestions?

I'm thinking about a possible replacement for the G12 as my everyday concealed carry camera.

It has to be:

- wide, at least 28mm equivalent, 24 is better
- fast, with good low-light capabilities for capturing misty dawns and fading sunsets
- small, but big enough for two hands (the G12 is about the right size, an RX100 is too small)
- equipped with a decent EVF or OVF that allows fairly accurate framing. Rear-screen-only is a no go.

Suggestions?

Cheers, Jock

Do you need a zoom or a prime? If a prime is also OK, why not try a Nikon V1 with the pancake 10/2.8 prime out?

Hi Jock. Among cameras currently available, the Ricoh GR with the OVF (now free with camera purchase at Adorama) comes to mind first. After that, perhaps something like an Olympus E-PM2 or E-PL5. The E-PM2 is essentially menu-driven but gives great results and is being heavily discounted right now. Put either the Zuiko 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ (28-84mm equivalent) or the Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 prime pancake (28mm equivalent) on it and you're golden. Oh yes, since the E-PM2 kits are so cheap now, you won't have a problem picking up the VF-3 EVF for it. After that, maybe a leftover or used Nikon V1? But I agree with Jason. Maybe you should wait to see what the Panasonic LX8 and Fuji X30 will be like. Both reportedly will have one-inch sensors.

Leica M (M9, M-E, or new M) with Leica 24mm Summilux.

Is there a budget? I am thinking about EM10 (pretty small actually) or GM1 (very small... abit too small though since it is basically the same size as a RX100, but with lenses like the 12-50mm, I think holding it is quite simple.)

The other camera that you can look into is the G1XmkII, since it is a Canon, and your old camera is a Canon G12, I would think that you should be very familiar with the handling... plus the G1X mkII is an excellent camera, great low light performance, good AF and had a hotshoe for many other accessories such as an external flash, viewfinder, etc (plus the viewfinder is selling at an okay pricing unlike the crazy cost of a viewfinder for the RX100mkII).
