Flickr changes again

Has it changed for everyone or have you been co-opted into one of their beta rollouts?

(I never see changes now as Flickr refuses to acknowledge my browser as supported and so serves me up with the last but two version of the site)

Much of it still the same...but the page you see when clicking on a particular photo has changed for the better. Nicer layout of information and a half decent looking navigation Tab. Certainly wouldn't mind seeing these tweaks across the board.

I saw that - I think - but I'm never quite sure as to where to find what anymore, must be my (old) age

Is there a downloadable "book" on explaining the easy way to do things ……. just a few simple steps as sometimes I feel that I should just delete everything and start again

The photo is now smaller and the "comments" have been moved off the bottom of the screen. One of the few things I liked anymore about flickr was the social aspect. So they have moved that off the screen, I would assume that the photo is the main thing, but they've minimized that as well. :wtf:

I have still no got 'used to" the default opening page

and I still (really) dislike it

I always use the /?details=1 when opening my flickr page

What I'm noticing is that the images are longer scaled to fit but rather are displayed at the nearest standard image size. The problem that I found with the previous scaled-to-fit images is that they looked quite soft, presumably because they were being interpolated on the fly. The images aren't as big as before but they look better to me.

I'm firmly in Luke's camp on this one. Smaller images + no interaction until you scroll down = neither fish nor fowl. I never had any issue with image unsharpness (might have been there but not to the extent that I noticed).

Wow, I hadn't seen this. I like it a lot. Any comments and faves are still there at the bottom and it's as easy to grab BB codes and waaaay quicker to display (and copy the URL for) one of the larger or smaller sizes. I can't think of anything I ever do with Flickr that's harder and most of what I do with it is easier. I didn't DIS-like the way it was, but I much prefer this, with all of the information at the bottom, rather than to the side. I felt like I usually had to go full screen to really look at the photos before - not so much with this layout...

You lot are very quick to forgive, and forget... Remember why all this started? So that Flickr could insert adverts in photostreams to monetise their service through advertising revenue rather than subscriptions? Are you happy to have other people make money from your images?

I'm not.

I guess since I've had the paid version I never saw the ads, so out of sight, out of mind. Hence, it never actively bothered me. Now that you mention it, I suppose I could work up a small lather, but probably not. I don't look at it as people making money from my images so much as making money by creating a meeting space for photographers. Either interpretation is probably valid.

And really, I was never making any money from them anyway, so it's no money out of my pocket, even if you DO look at it that way...

The main change affecting me is that Flickr no longer allows insecure connections to their site.
This means apps and software such as Adobe PhotoElements or Snapseed can no longer place images into your Photostream.
Just more work really.

Any site that sells yearly subscriptions to host your images is also making money from your images.

Quite. But THAT is under MY control. Under Flickr's current business model, if you search "Kauai" in my Flickr stream (if I still had one) you would find my photos of Bali Hai, Kilohana, Na Pali etc interspersed with ads for products over which I have absolutely no control from suppliers with which I may not wish to be associated - Wal-mart or Apple, for instance.

Over my dead body.

I will choose where, when and how to monetise, or not at all.
