Nikon Showcase Nikon 1 J1 Shooting the Moon

walter_g

Regular
I wanted to see how well my J1 would do for shots of the Moon.
The pic is nothing special I can do better. Nikon J1 handheld with Minolta 200 f4 wide open. It is heavily cropped, sense I didn't use a tc.
I will add other shots as the Moon phase changes.

That's funny. I had the same thought tonight. This is from a handheld V1 with the 30-110mm at 110mm, f/5.6, 1/5000, ISO 3200, VR on, spotmetered and EV - 3. 100% crop and sharpened a little.

Seems like the same sensor but different lenses had very similar results. I hope it's okay if I post mine to your thread.

Yes, please post any Moon shots you want.
I don't have the 30-110 yet, but I'm going to try Moon shots with it as soon as I get one.
Which hopefully will be real soon.
My shot I believe was ISO 200, 1/320, and 0 ev correction. It was sharpened.

I tried again tonight, same lens this time with a 2x teleconverter.
Too hard to balance and no tripod mount on lens.
It was a failure. I just couldn't hold it steady.
This was with a 7 element converter.
Try again tomorrow nite.
Anyway here it is.

Looking at these, I again draw the personal conclusion that it's about the lens and person shooting, rather than the camera body....
