Was taking photos in the rain yesterday at a nearby nature reservation, and at one point was walking along the dried up bed of a man-made lake. Turns out it was not a good idea because what looked like solid ground covered with vegetation turned out to be some serious muck. Found myself stuck above my knees in very heavy and sticky mud/clay mixture, and needed to lay down my E-M5 and RX-10 in the muddy ground. After 20 minutes of digging out, still went on and shot anyway. Got back home and spent the morning cleaning up the gear. They all seemed to have survived since I used the same gear to shoot an event that evening.

Pretty impressive. I've been in a couple of pretty serious downpours with the EM5 and EM1, but never anything like putting them down in the mud. Glad to know the RX10 is that tough too...

Ray, these tend to be my rainy day cameras since they are both weather-sealed. I was a bit worried about the Olympus 75-300 mk II since it is technically not a water-proof lens (unlike the mud-smeared Panasonic 12-35 in the photo). Held up pretty well with some protection from my cap. But then, not three hours later, I was covering my son's marching band at a local high school football game; I switched to the 75-300 in a rush and thought i had secured it to the E-M5, pulled my hand away to check the RX-10 and saw the lens come off and….bounce off the astroturf! The darn thing had nary a ding or scratch and everything worked perfectly. it may not be certifiably weather-sealed, but it seems to be quite drop-resistant (and idiot-proof) as well.

My EM-5 took a pretty heavy soaking on the tour boat at Niagara Falls. This despite a large sealed plastic bag (which turned out to have a faulty seal). Never stop working!
Should have taken a selfie so we could see how mud soaked you where. :)
Anyway glad you invested in some robust gear!

Don - funny you say that, I did have half a mind to take a selfie (and then toss the phone away in case I did sink into the mud all the way; at least there would be some evidence of what happened!). Glad to hear your E-M5 withstood Niagara, makes me more confident about taking it out into the rain.
