strange business plan. Sony's solution to no decent lens selection becomes.... add IBIS to the body so all the old lenses work great.

Roughly once a week, I think to myself "if Sony spent a year and a half hunkering down and putting out a lens lineup like Fuji's, they would be unstoppable." They don't appear to have any intention of doing that. I'd love their chip size, but honestly that's all I'm jealous of. ASP-C is good enough, and my lens roadmap gives me warm, fuzzy feelings at night.

They could just hire Sigma to do it for them and re-badge them. Or just encourage/buy off Sigma to release more lenses with Sigma on the front.

It is actually a year since A7 is released. So far they released 16-35mm/24-70mm/70-200mm f4 OSS zooms plus 35/55mm primes /Zeiss 50mm and Sony 28mm/Zeiss 35mm f2 lenses are coming... It is a different philosophy then Fuji. Sony looks like they react to the market eg small & slow 35mm 2.8 to big and fast 35mm 1.4 release, etc... At least they innovate and push the envelope.

Even Sony pro photographers were saying the mount is too tight for IBIS and Sigma said the same thing for the FE mount.. Tamron is partially owned by Sony and they produced lenses for Sony.

We'll see how Mark II will perform as far af, etc but it is great for primes esp combined with smaller CV+Zeiss lenses... If they didn't have OSS on the zoom lenses, they could have save some space too... Next year will bring the next gen sensor which should be interesting... So far nobody has it unlike A7/A7R that uses the existing dslr sensors from Sony/Nikon models...

In Australia there have been a number of promotions for the A7 series including combinations of discounts, cash back offers and redemptions that brought the price of the A7 below $AU1100 (~$US1000). I think the normal retail price here is $1600 and about $2300 for the A7R.

I saw the coverage on the A7 Mk II earlier today, it looks like a solid upgrade. I hope the IBIS works with adapted lenses, that would be pretty awesome. They left the form factor mostly alone except for some welcome improvements too, which is nice to see. I'll have to hold one to see if it actually helps, but the existing front dial is horribly uncomfortable for me and the new front dial looks better. And an extra Fn button is always welcome!

On the lens front, that 28mm f/2 + 21mm WA adapter is very interesting. This is also purely an educated guess, but with the size of that 35mm f/1.4 I bet they're optically correcting a lot and it's going to be a heck of a performer.

I think the grip is more like EM1 which is good for big lenses but not good for smaller sizes... Here is the old A7 vs new A7II grip:

Also IBIS focal length input:

Putting the shutter button on the grip is very logical/ergonomical, but I think the A7/A7R button location/menu, etc are legacy from RX1 which was designed by the cybershot/RX100 design team, not the nex team. RX1 w/ third party grip and evf looks like A7/A7R. Normally all nex cameras has the shutter on the grip:

That new grip and shutter button location looks like it would be a big improvement. I reckon that if you're going to provide a grip on a camera then the shutter button has to be positioned over it.

That's a pretty big difference in grip. If I had a pancake lens for the A7 I might think differently, but with the lenses I'm using now that bigger grip will actually be welcome.

And I agree Nic, the shutter button definitely had to move with the new grip.
