Well the first third of the ride is fading into a distant memory. Congrats to all who have made it. See, it wasn't THAT hard. I think this middle stretch can be the hardest so just keep your nose to the grindstone. Is everyone starting to "see" in their chosen focal length?

I'm resorting to a lot of last second forced shots because my personal life is busy this month, but I'm going to try extra hard to get "good" shots.

Also, I kinda miss my other cameras. But this exercise does show me that I don't "need" them.

I've already missed two days (8 and 10) and this is only the first third of the challenge. In 2012, I did not miss a single day. My intentions are good, but life seems to continue to get in the way. Also, I am not too keen on posting photos that I normally would not post, save for the SIJ challenge.

I will continue to participate, but missing those two days has dampened my enthusiasm...

Me too, but it has the opposite effect. If it doesn't work out one day it's no big deal anymore.

I have rally enjoyed seeing the variety. Personally I think I could have done better on several days. But I like the restriction of only one camera, but I wanted to grab a different one yesterday, resisted.

Ten days, not too bad. Next ten, .....
Found myself, a couple times, wanting to cheat, by reaching for the 20mm, instead of the 50'.
Already stretching my imagination, to get acceptable "fodder" for the next 10 days.

I think that shooting for the challenge sometimes forces us to post stuff we would not usually bother with. I have, and I don't like doing it. Today is likely to be books for me (I see someone did books yesterday or the day before, I haven't been and looked at everything yet and have no hope of catching up on commenting) because I won't be out and about. I like the fact that the challenge makes us take photographs of something. I hate posting if theres nothing I feel is worthy. I hate posting an unworthy shot when yesterday I had several that would have been good. Challenges such as this have both good and bad aspects. Thats just one.

I almost missed today! The story is a bit embarrassing (very, in fact ... because it's about more or less the first lesson you learn when going digital): I only took one (1!) single shot, and then my battery - died. And - I hadn't thought of packing a spare. So, that image was the first and last shot of my photo walk with the camera dedicated to SiJ.

I had in fact brought other cameras with me (film!), but in spite of a whole bag full of stuff, no extra battery. So this is it. I was a bit too exasperated to take out the camera a second time after getting home.

The only solace is that I'll never be truer to the literal sense of "Single in January"

If every image I posted for this challenge was what I'd ordinarily class a 'keeper', I'd start up a serious photography business because I'd have 'what it takes'.

I get lucky on some days, not so lucky on others - I just don't beat myself up about it. (y)

My main problem is having time to look at other peoples work and try and say something more than just "nice photo". Though when I do look at other photo's in the Gallery, I do read the comments and try and see what others are seeing and see how the photo relates to their comments. I am also finding it easier at the weekends as I do not have to work. I am determined to see this challenge through and post as much of a variety as possible, easier said than done I know.

All,

Quick message via my phone to let y'all know I am still alive. Will post and upload when my interweb conection returns. I am back in the Dark Ages here. Ahhhhhhhh.....

Am enjoying the process and I'm giving myself some latitude eg I have not shot on every day but am still posting daily and trying to comment as much as possible.

I can live with my version of 'the rules' - hope others aren't offended. :)

I find my IR converted Canon G5 has limitations so am trying techniques not all of which work in IR. I am exploring post processing options and have trialled HDR, pano, long exposure, flash etc.

I found a useful link in the Photo Details box. Click on the "See all Users Photos" which lists all SiJ entries by that member. It is also a way to check comments on your own photos (if you are not getting email updates).

I missed out yesterday but went out tonight for a quick walk to take a few shots of the lights on EDSA. On the way back I stopped to chat with a local hot food vendor and pick up some of their delicious full fat charcoal grilled pork. I snapped a couple of quick shots while waiting and got one I really liked which is now posted as today's shot.

Taken on my recently acquired Fuji I was interested to see how well it would cope with the blindingly bright, unshaded fluorescent tube directly above his head. The unworked version was pretty bad but I think it has come out quite well in the end. I'm sure with more time and fine tuning I can improve it further.

I will confess that I broke the one lens rule, having stuck the 35 on earlier in the day to take a couple of pics and having forgotten to switch it back when I went out tonight.

I had to break the "1 lens" rule this weekend. We have a group bike ride planned for the end of the month, and we test rode it Saturday to see if the route is ok, and also to get pictures for the wife's website, which is putting the ride on. That meant I needed the 14, the 35, and the 56. I had no desire to add a fourth lens into that stuffed little Domke bag, and there are (to my mind) VERY few things the 27 pancake can do that the other lenses can't do better. It's a casual lens for me, right or wrong, and not a working lens.

The good news is, I got shots. I got the hell out' the house, and shot. So I'm gonna chalk that up as a victory, and now I'm back into the weekday routine -- 27 back on the XT, nothing else in the bag. Will pick a shot for each weekend day and post it now...
