If I was into the whole foveon thing, this one would put me over the edge for sure. Now that they've expanded the breed, they just need something in the portrait range, somewhere from 90-120 equivalent, and you could really make a really nice walk around mini-system with just these. As a wide angle guy, I'd go for the 0, 1, and 2, and then something longer than the 3 if they ever make one, and I'd be fully covered. I'm not into the particular set of tradeoffs that come with these cameras, though, so it'll be for someone else to go all-Sigma, all the time...

Edit - actually, just saw a picture of it. That's a HONKIN' big lens. So much for a compact kit. Really goofy looking camera (as all of the Quattros are to some extent) with that big lens on the little sliver of a body...

Honestly it surprised me that they've gone for the 50mm lens on the DP3 Merrill and DP3 Quattro rather than optimizing the design of the excellent 60mm f2.8 lens they currently make in m43 and Sony E mount (though I'm sure its because of the macro function of the 50mm). That would deliver that 90mm equivalent - perfect for portraiture. I currently shoot the Sigma 60mm for m43 as my portrait lens in studio settings, but I would definitely consider a Merrill or Quatto with this lens and a leaf shutter with the ability to sync at 1/1250sec like the other DP cameras.

Right now I'm imagineering some kind of holster or bandoleer styled apparatus that allows one to carry four different Sigma camera bodies at the same time .

With a lens that big, it's a definite no. Might've been interested if the whole thing was similar in size to the rest of the range, but no amount of resolution justifies that size of lens for a 21mm f4 equivalent, single focal length lens.

Yeah, I'd pick up a little Fuji, like the XA1 or XM1 (or XE if I wanted an EVF) and the awesome 14mm f2.8 if I was looking for the moral equivalent of a fixed lens 21mm equivalent. Less resolution and detail, but more of everything else IMHO. And probably smaller as well. I had an XE1 with that lens along with my Coolpix A and RX1 in Italy a couple of summers ago and it was a great trio for my favorite focal lengths. Didn't bring any other lenses for the Fuji - just a tiny little three camera kit with no lens changing needed...

Clearly I missed this, but apparently there is a 1.2X extender available for the DP3 Quattro that gives that 90mm equivalent FOV. It makes the camera quite large in comparison to what the DP series started out as - now looking more like a medium format camera (when you add the optional LCD loupe). Still very intriguing for studio portrait work.
