The 14th Photographers Lounge Salon Challenge: Fill 'Er Up

Location

This contest will run until July 31st. I'd end it a little sooner, but I'll be out of town the last week of the month, so you get a little more time. The topic is simple enough:

FILL 'ER UP.

You may choose to interpret that literally, figuratively, or stylistically. And I have a sense of humor, so you'll get bonus points for wit. Get out there, make something new, and show me what you've got.

Rules are simple................

1. Either take a picture that matches the nominated theme or select one from your portfolio. You must be the photographer that created the picture in order to enter it.

2. Only one entry per salon, please. If you want to withdraw an entry and replace it with another, that is OK, but you must make it clear in the post containing your replacement picture that this is what you've done. You can add or change the title and add to the edit line to let everyone know.

3. The decision of the curator at the end of the challenge is final - don't give him/her a hard time about it: this is just a friendly photo challenge, after all!

5. The person who submitted the chosen picture will assume the responsibility of curator for the next Salon Challenge and as soon as possible post a message in a new thread in the PL Photo Challenges forum, with details of the new theme. Don't forget - that opening message must include a copy of these instructions, which also double as the rules.

6. The curator can't enter his or her own salon.

7. Please, don´t be shy...Participate and have fun!

Gladly! It's a euphamism that usually applies to...

- filling the gas tank in ones vehicle
- filling ones glass with a beverage

But you could stretch to apply to anything that's fillable. Or you could use it as a directive to "fill the frame" with your subject. Whatever seems best to you.

"Fill 'er up" is a slang term. The common usage refers to a car in need of fuel. It would be the request casually delivered to the petrol pump attendant. The broader meaning would be to fill any receptacle, or vessel, whether feminine or neuter. The humour lies in the more unusual (or literal) interpretations of the term.

last I checked, we still had around 5 of them. Seems strange they still exist.... even when I was learning to drive a car in the mid 80s, I'd guess only half the stations left had full service pumps. Reminds me of the good old days......sitting in the waaaaay back of the station wagon (without seat belts) while mom asked the guy to check the oil and "Fill 'er up".

I might seek out one of those full service stations tomorrow and get my shot for the challenge.

I haven't seen a petrol pump attendant for years in England. In fact petrol stations are getting hard to find in many areas. I guess the profit margins for the owners are just too low. If I drive towards Hereford (16 miles of 'A' road) there are none until I hit the town. (There are no shops either but that's Herefordshire for you!) However in southern Europe there seem to be petrol stations every few hundred yards, and quite a high percentage have attendants. Italy and the Canary islands especially. I don't get the economics at all.

There are two very small, old gas stations near my house, on two adjacent corners at an intersection, both run by incredibly friendly guys with heavy accents. Both run a garage for repairs as well. And both pump your gas for you.
