Sigma Flash help please - Sigma DP2M and Metz 20-C2

Hi, and thanks for having me!

I have just bought a Metz 20 C-2 flash for my Sigma dp2 merrill, but it won't work! I have attached it properly on the hot shoe, set up the manual options etc... but the Sigma won't allow me to change flash options. That bit is greyed out. I have not updated the firmware on the Sigma, but it already says 1.5, so that is the most up to date anyway isn't it?

Any help would be much appreciated.

The camera won't see the flash. You just turn on the flash, set it to the desired auto setting, either f2.8 or f5.6, depending on your camera settings and take a picture. Then the flash will fire.
At least that's how my 20 C-2 and 36 C-2 works on my DP1M and DP3M.

Does the indicator light on the back of the flash light up? Are you sure the batteries are placed correctly and are charged?
Do you use an extension cord between camera and flash? If you do try putting it directly on the camera to make sure the cable isn't the issue.

Thanks, no cord or anything, and I've done what you said - but it won't fire! Actually, after some experimenting it fired ONCE when the settings were 'just so' on P mode... a bit useless as obviously then overexposed. But nothing on M mode still.

Hang on a minute... it does fire, sometimes, but with no consistency - sometimes it works on M, sometimes not, sometimes with one speed setting, but not the next time, etc... weird. Maybe something wrong with the connector underneath?

I had a similar issue recently (different camera + flash set up though). Mine is a totally manual flash, and in order for it to fire, the shutter speed must be 180 or slower. I kept forgetting this. Something to keep in mind.

I found a write-up while looking the other day and it recommends manually setting camera shutter to sync speed (1/150 ish) and selecting the aperture to be either 2.8 or 5.6 to match the switch setting on the back of the flash. The flash is then able to run in Auto.

I'll update next week when the unit arrives.
