Fuji First Outing with the X100

After these I'll post pictures in the 'non street' thread, but I couldn't resist posting my first shots separately.
Just for once I was hoping that my very first shot would be a keeper, but unfortunately I was too confident with the shutter speed, so here is the second shot taken with it:

More in the next post!

Hi there
Fortunately my battery came with a bit of juice in it, I thought these were shot with the old firmware, all jpg (with mods in Aperture) - I really didn't make any menu changes, as I was frightened the battery might run out!

No impressions, except that it takes pictures when you press the button, and that they seem to be quite good!

The camera is pretty small, but it's much heavier (and notably larger) than the X1 - here's a snap of it with my K5:

Here are some first samples

These were all shot in evening light - good sky but not much sun. Good to start with!

Now the battery is charged I've started fiddling with firmware . . . only to find that 1.01 was already installed. Now to start messing with the settings!

All the best

Jono, off to a good start is right and thank so much for the variety of your pictures, too. I just got off the phone with another friend of mine... He and I shared a darkroom in college which was back in in the mid to late 1970s... He's waiting for his camera to be delivered and he was asking me about "bokeh" - and here you are with your last three showing us what the X100 can do.(y)

You live in a beautiful place.

Reading your posts is going to be expensive. My X100 lust is about to break my will power. And I was already a fan of pyrenean shepherds, images like that might help me convince the home front.

Ahhh - it certainly might be expensive . . . the dog cost about the same as the camera! We've had flat coats, retrievers, pointers, bedlingtons and norfolk terriers over the years; Caspar is nearly one and a half, and he's such a different proposition - charming and lovely (but we're having trouble with the chickens . . . .more to the point the chickens are having trouble with the dog!:yahoo:) - he also has no vertical issues, so we might easily find him asleep on the kitchen table, or the windowsill, or on top of a chest of drawers.

If you want more Pyrenean shots, you could look at this:

Caspar Growing Up

but it might not be advisable!

As for the camera - I hadn't a clue what I was doing, and it seemed to come up with the goods.

Hi There - thanks for the kind words - more luck than judgement I think, but the bokeh on closeups does seem quite good, it seems fine for landscape (if you can deal with 12mp), and if you persist in putting the battery in the wrong way around then you'll be likely to send it back

Jono, very nice first shots. Interesting how an experienced photographer such as you takes such good images even when not adapting the camera settings.
Currently I'm lusting in anticipation of the GXR M mount module more than the X100, which is lucky since at the moment I cant afford either of them.

Hi Will
thank you for the kind words, but after the amount of time wasted it'd be pretty tragic if one couldn't get a snap or too. Actually, it's less irritating than I'd thought and the number of 'technical keepers' seems to be pretty high . . . and the jpg files are great.

As for lusting after things I can't afford, I'm an expert!

Nice series and that silver K5 looks tempting:)

Mmmm yes - it is nice - it kind of happened by accident (there it was in the shop when I took my black one in to be replaced . . . .) It's a different kind of silver from the X100, so they don't look quite so good together!

Rich - I'm no dog - but he is a nice dog (not so good with chickens though!).:yahoo:
