Hangin' with the Fuji X10 and kinda not really missing the "better" cameras I have. There is something incredibly liberating about going low-fi...JPEG (6mp JPEG if I'm shooting EXR), point and shoot, small, and spartan (at least compared to my E-M10). Sure, it's got tons of limitations and just about every modern camera is better in some measurable way but...the little Fuji is channeling the spirit of my Konica Auto S3.

The X10 is a good camera to calm the gear dependence. A pleasure to use, easy to carry, and "good enough" in a good way. It lets you think more about taking pictures. I also hear that it can do 12 MP in a pinch ;)

actually, having used scores of digitals in every format, imo the x10 is a very good camera. it is especially so street shooting, where the small sensor's increased DOF comes in very handy. believe it or not, i use it exactly the way i use my rd1 in these situations, manual zone focus, shoot from the hip. i also really love fuji's implementation of pano, which i use quite a bit. and for me, i love fuji's original bayer sensor. i simply do not get on with xtrans though. fuji's bayer b&w is up there with leicas imo.

The X10 was initially derailed a bit by infamous "orb" problem. It was one of those things that most people didn't even notice but became a cause celeb on sites like DPR.

I know, I know....I am loving my X10 (acquired after someone here said hey someone on ebay is selling X10's for $99 in December). I love my XT1. Big decision coming up. Do I pack the X10 for my upcoming trip to Spain or the originally planned XT1? I have equal checkmarks in the columns.

Guilty as charged... It WAS a good deal though.

It's funny you mention a trip because my wife, son and I are planning a month long trip (also to Spain) in December and I had bought an E-M10 and a couple of primes to be my compact travelin' camera, but the more I use the X10 the more I think that it might make a better travel companion.

AS I've said before, the X10 was my gateway drug to this whole Fuji X thing and I still remember it fondly. I still have an X20, bought when the X30 - which has never appealed in the same way - came out and I love it too. There's something about that form factor - particularly fitted with a wrist strap, thumbrest and a case that makes it work particularly, as has been said, for street. I love the OVF and use it exclusively; that's what killed the X30 for me.

I also bought the $99 special x10 but gave it to a younger friend of mine. (That was the plan all along.) She's artistic but never really dabbled with photography. She was very taken with the quality of the X10. Oddly, she loved the film emulation modes and wants to try B&W.

A friend of mine had an X10 he almost sold few years ago but didn't, because no one was willing to pay him enough.. This thread makes me want to ask if he still has it..

No, we're thinking of retiring to Barcelona so we're going there to celebrate the end of my wife's treatment for breast cancer (she's doing really well) and rent a place and just enjoy being there for the holidays. Have fun on the Camino!
Wow, that's quite a retirement plan! First off, best wishes on your wife's continued recovery - nothing more important than that. But haven't you been living in the Pacific Northwest of the US, or do I have the wrong guy? Or just a faulty memory? I love Barcelona - one of the world's most interesting cities IMHO. I've never thought about moving that far out of the US for retirement, but with recent events here, I'm starting to think about the possibility a bit more... I'd love to hear more, although I don't want to take this too far off-topic...

You have it right, I live in a small city south of Vancouver B.C. in WA State. Thirty years in the PNW makes a place like Spain that much more appealing. I had been there a couple of times as a kid (my father always wanted to retire in Spain) and when my wife, son and I went there a few years ago we just fell in love with Barcelona...there is definitely something special about that city and the people. It also helps that I speak some Spanish (my mom is Panamanian) although living in Barcelona will mean learning Catalan. The driving force behind the idea of moving there however is that my wife and love to travel and living in Europe affords us with a lot of very interesting places to explore that are relatively close to one another. Both of us are cancer survivors so we want to make the most of whatever time we are given. With any luck my son will decide he wants to head over there as well. He's always talking about going to college there so...
