Hey I know my site stats betray that I may have visited here once or twice in the past, but I have been away for some time and thought it rude just to jump back in.

I have a long history with serious compact cameras ;) but left to pursue film exclusively...well with a smattering of Canon full-frame action. Only compact that survived was the X100T which I still have and love. So much so I've just sold off most of my gear (Canon, Leica, etc.) leaving me with the X100T and now I'm considering a reentry into this world of small capables.

So I'll apologise now for my inane ramblings. There will be much much more of it I assure you.

Anyway best stop there, and just say hello again folks. Hope the crew here are as friendly as I remember.

Also hope you might be able to help me figure which cam to buy to complement the X100T over the next few days.

Welcome back mate! Great to have you here again. Looking forward to your inane ramblings :hide::p

Regarding the X100T: I totally understand... there're lots of new cameras that would be a great fit for many of my shooting scenarios, and many of them are smaller than the X100 (which for me is at the upper limit, size-wise)... but there's just so much character to the images that I'm not seeing with other cameras...

Regarding a companion, if you like Really Wide Angle, it might be worth waiting for the Nikon DL18-50, although it'll be a while until it is available. If it's more general focal lengths, I'd say RX100 mk4 (smallest and still most allround capable), Canon g5x (best control), Panasonic TZ100 (or whatever they call it in your corner of the world... dumb-ass marketing people, but great reach for a 1" sensor), or Fuji X30 (fairly similar controls and looks to X100, Fuji film simulations, mechanical zoom is great for quick grab shots of distant subjects)

Bart me old mate, how you doing?

Yeah the X100T is hard to beat. Between you and I, I was shooting a Leica M (film) with 35mm Summarit and the X100T had its number on most occasions - except pure B&W...if only we could get the new XPro2 Acros JPEGs onboard - suppose it's how they're going to get me to buy the X100u. But they better never go taking Classic Chrome off me. I've got the X100T set up for JPEG only in Chrome...Fn for RAW on the rare occasion.

Thanks for the suggestions mate. Many were already on my list, though I also had the LX100 and G1Xii. You're spot on though mate, I'm looking for an all-in-one travel cam. Not thinking ILC for now - otherwise it's a no-brainer and I'm getting the XPro2. Talking the TZ100, the likes of the new Nikon DL24-500 is damn interesting too ;)

Mark, you have reminded me that I STILL own a X100T that I had forgotten about! It is in a case in the spare bedroom. Must break it out and give it a run. I am on a bit of a lull at the moment, but my trip to Aus' July to October might ignite my interest again. As an every day camera to chuck in the car (and to cover all eventualities) I invested in the Panny FZ1000 (25-400 zoom) but too large for you I guess? Great video on it!

Great to hear from you Pete. Mate do it! Other that AF still hunting in low light, I can't fault it. The X100T is all the X100 woes resolved. Whereabouts you going walkabout down under mate?

Nah mate not dismissing anything at this stage. I'm contemplating the Nikon DL24-500 and I reckon that's a shade larger than the FZ1000. Actually, something with that kind of reach, while keeping the wide options open, might prove handy in the wilds.

Start off Dawin for a few days. Cuz' Shirl' driving us to Ayres Rock then down to great ocean road and port Philip bay/Blairgowrie/sorrento. Melbourne, Wagga Wagga, Sydney, Tazzie, Ballina, Sydney again and home. Apart from Tazzie we are with family. This is our 3rd visit!

Sounds a bonzer trip mate. (y)
Always depresses me that visitors 'do' our country better than us. We'll holiday close by or else jet direct to a single place and back again....jealous mate, jealous.
P.S., a shame you're not coming Canberra way so we could have caught up for a brew. Maybe trip #4.

of course your new icon is the Great Gonzo. Welcome back!

If it were in my budget the new Sony RX10 mk iii would be my choice for it's new reach. But I'll continue shooting with the original RX10 as it does 90% of what I want (which is a lot more than I can say for that little white dog of ours).

Now how about sharing some of the film photos you've been creating while you were gone. I want proof (or it never happened).

Hi Mark,

Welcome back, remember you running the SiJ few years ago. I'm not very active posting here myself.

I also have the X100T and recently picked up the X70. Once they release the WCL-X70 I'll have 21, 28, 35 and 50 (with TCL-X100) in a small compact setup. That would be all I need for now in digital (selling my A7 soon), the rest is all film cameras. Nice thing with the X100T/X70 setup is that the controls and picture settings are the same, so easy to switch between them. If you want longer reach then this setup wouldn't work for you.

Did Canberra time before last. Liked it a lot. I went to the National Library to dig up some news cuttings about my great grandfather. He left his wife and family to tour NZ and Aus in 1897. He was a Vaudeville performer. He was never seen by them again. He bigamously married twice and ended up in the USA. Last I found a trace of him he was a lift (elevator) operator in New York in 1930. He was quite a big name in Aus' when he was in his pomp. Part of the Harry Rickards group of performers 1897 - 19-something or other. He was known as Dave Caston or Dave H Caston, although his real name was David Leon Tachauer.

Hi Mark, good to see you here again. I can't help you much in the camera department. I have my own m43 set that I like, but I'm sure that I would be happy with any comparible set from any other company. There's benefits and disadvantages everywhere. I do carry a LX100 as my compact, which I much prefer over the RX100 mkI, which has a UI I loathe. I love the controls (dedicated aperture, speed and compensation dials) on the LX100 and it has a decent image quality. For me, this is the best compromise. But then again, I shoot wide over long and prefer my compact to be just that.

Ahhh my old mates!

Hey Thomas. How are you mate? Yeah I got the chance to play with the X70 recently. It is quite the beast compared to the GR. But the similar UIs is a distinct advantage. A shame Fuji employed different batteries.

Nice to have you back Mark and boosting the Aussie content. How are the cows?
Mate they are doing well. Maybe a little TOO well. Fat as! They've not been subject of my photographic attentions for a while. though. Hmmm...

Coming from you mate that's quite a vote of confidence. The LX100 remains my front runner - when I'm not thinking of the XPro2 ;) I've tried the RX100s Mk1 through to 3, didn't like any of them.
