This makes my gut hurt

Two people have been stabbed in my neighborhood lately, some miles away some young folks poured gasoline over an old homeless man while he was sleeping ...
I spare you the gruesome details, but like so often it happened for next to nothing and such cases are on the rise these days. I really don't want to think about where this is all heading ...

It's worldwide. Here in the UK we are seeing a spate of targeted and random attacks involving acid; also more crime involving mopeds. The police apparently stop pursuing if the rider removes his helmet for fear they will themselves be blamed if the rider injures themselves in a crash...

It's a mad world we live in. Be careful out there, and insure yourself and your kit. Hand it over and live to see another sunrise. Don't be a hero.

Sadly, it's instinct. I tend to walk towards trouble, not away from it. I'm 6'3" so I have got away with it in the past, but as my wife points out, I am older and slower now and should be more circumspect.

As I have got older, I have also become more physically frail. Long gone are the days when I could help take down an out of control psychotic patient. I wont even go out at night anymore, unless I am staying in my car, or with a group of people.

Unfortunately we have bred a generation of de sensitised people who have no qualms about using really unfathomable violence simple for kicks, if they gain something of material value as well then that's just a bonus for them.

They need to start putting tracking devices in these cameras. How can these crimes not be solved? These crackheads need to sell these cameras somewhere....I'm sure they're not stealing them for the mega-pickles. I know here that you need identification to sell merchandise to a pawnshop. And surely the police can scan Craigslist adverts to search for stolen camera gear when there is a murder involved.

The problem is, Luke, it's not just crackheads anymore. And while I certainly won't lump all young people in this category, it's clear something wasn't passed along from earlier generations. I truly hate to say this, but for the very first time it's beginning to feel - at least to me - like a general unraveling of western society.

Sorry to put a dark spin on things, folks. There does definitely seem to be a trend toward anarchy in some circles. As Alfred told Bruce Wayne in "The Dark Knight", "Some men just want to watch the world burn, sir.".

while I agree that "society" as a whole is not as civil as it once was, it takes someone out of their mind on drugs to kill someone for a camera that they can sell for a few hundred bucks. Even if they knew how to sell it for a few thousand, one needs to be completely deranged to kill for it.

I mean, the old guy was in his 70s....couldn't they have just pushed him over and stolen his camera? There's wrong and there's totally messed up.....this is totally messed up.

Actually, I think its all about having too much too soon. Kids seem to have access to everything these days. I see 5 year olds with mobile phones, 10 year olds talking about sex, by the time they are mid teens they have had everything, done everything, and all thats left for kicks is beating people up, thieving, or taking drugs... (or all of the above)
