So, I did promise myself for this challenge to not edit the out of camera JPEGs, other than straightening/cropping. Today, I regret that a little since it's obvious that my little LX100 had a hard time dealing with this image and ISO 1600 (see the dark parts in the clouds). The accompanying RAW file has a lot more headroom. Next time, no more lazy me. I guess I will never become a JPEG shooter.

This needed to be an early morning shot to get the lighting conditions. As luck would have it there was a few minutes of sunshine, since then almost constant showers interspersed with periods of rain!

In constant use?

(The image looks rather more contrasty on here than intended)

P.S.
I've subsequently processed this raw file using ACR, Photoshop and Silver Efex and obtained a much better image with more "open shadows, so between the footpath post on the extreme left and the nearest gatepost to it the stone steps and stile are now clearly visible and the dark vegetation behind the left gate has much more detail in it, so I'm still on a learning curve with RawTherapee in particular.

P.P.S. I've now posted what I think is a better processed image in outakes and experiments, still using RawTherapee, for what was a very contrasty scene and one I found difficult to process.

Did you notice the Au H2O essay comments?
Oh yes, as well as the Chem 250 reading and homework, and all the other tasks. I had 6 semesters of Chemistry in college, and never seemed to get any better at it.

Here's my submission for today, a storm damaged Purple Leaf Plum, Prunus cerasifera.

I've been shooting Raw + jpeg with my Ricoh GXR but haven't found any jpeg files yet that I would want to post straight out of the camera, or indeed even attempt to edit after the event to "improve" them. Perhaps that's a reflection of the poor light available on most days or my laziness in trying to set better in camera jpeg parameters.

I made a complete hash of processing today's raw image and have now posted what I think is a better attempt in "outakes and experiments"

The one tool I've not used is crop, all my images have been posted as framed at the time in the camera.
