Which CSC?

Probably not many of you here who haven't heard me bleat on about my dSLR and it's clunkiness. So time to put my money where my mouth is!

So the whole K-r kit will be on the chopping block - bag and all (I'll post on these Classies shortly). But what to get? Like many a newbie and lurker I'm keen for advice on which CSC to go for. I also know the first response is "Yeah but what do you shoot and expect of your camera?" Well many of you know, but to recap. I'm going for a complement to the X100 so I'm looking for the versatility of an ILC, but I'll be sticking with the kit zoom for starters- so I'm looking for a good package. I also want a VF. Happy for it to be an EVF - so it'll need to take a hotshoe attachment - which I assume discounts the APS-C segment; viz., NEX and NX?

Any, and all, help greatly appreciated.

This is really a tough question. If you need a decent CSC with a built-in EVF and a good kit zoom, I can recommend Samsung NX11. But after your Fuji X100 you will be unpleasantly surprised with its high ISO noise.

If you want a built in VF, then it's either a Panasonic G/GH, the Sony NEX7, or the aforementioned Samsung. If the kit zoom is a factor, then the GH1/2 + 14-140 "kit" lens would give you the most flexibility to complement your X100.

Thanks for the advice so far. I should have been clearer. I was sticking with the kit zoom for starters....so I'm thinking the ILC will ensure versatility in the long-term (as well as allow for some LBA/GAS along the way ), with the potential to buy faster or longer glass later either on-brand or via adapter. Also the VF can be an add-on. I know an integrated VF would cut down my choices somewhat.

So we've cut it down to:
Samsung NX11
- I'll definitely look further into this....and yes Don's telling me I shouldn't a few posts back isn't helping :laugh1:
Sony NEX 5n
- so I can have an EVF? Hmmm...
superzoom
- my bad mate, I should have made the need to expand later clearer

Now I fear l;istening to the GASman :tomato2: Just kidding Armando. The NEX7 is a serious contender, the NX11 ibid, the GHs are a little too close to the K-r size
Fuji X10.
Never fear it is up there....just thinking the ILC will give more flexibility...and I'd prefer info in my VF. But...
What can I say the man is evil. EVIL I tell ya! You're right mate, there'll be an M in my future, but not just yet..

So here I was thinking that the EP3 with 14-42 II would be a good choice (especially with the VF2 or 3) or maybe even spark the oh best get a GF debate....but not the one m4/3 recommended. Hmmm...

Mark, when you look at your options, which one speaks to you? Which one gets you excited? If you are going to give into your GAS, go with your heart. It might get you into trouble but the romance will be fun! Life's too short to be serious and you know the next big thing will be out soon to woo you so seize the day while the current squeeze has it in her to make you smile! Gosh I talk a lot of nonsense when I'm sleep deprived after a bout of nightshifts! But seriously, you must have one that has caught your eye that you are so willing to stray from your old but reliable k-r. Gosh, pdh, we think alike!

I'm at a loss for what CSC stands for.

So Mark, now that you have your Fuji X100, you're looking for an interchangeable lens camera? What kind of photographs are you imagining?

LOL!!! :laugh1:

GAS man succumbed, and feel off the wagon. :alcoholic: More people should join me. :drinks: Decided to try out the NEX5n. Should be here tomorrow. Hopefully, all those test images on Imaging Resource are correct about the NEX5n's IQ.

I was never that keen on the panasonic G or GH bodies until I found a GH1 at a good price earlier this year and decided to buy it. It took me a while to get comfortable with the ergonomics of the mini-DSLR shape but as it turned out it was the reason I decided to start the shift to m4/3 as my main camera system rather than just something to have a bit of fun with.

I could see you with an E-P3 but I hesitate to recommend m4/3 because the sensor is too old and too small, the noise to high, the dynamic range too low, yadda, yadda, yadda...
