Is it JUST me....

I opened SilkyPix to give it another go (haven't quite figured it out yet...) and pulled up a few jpeg's and raw's to attempt...

However, I pulled up a jpeg, taken with my Leica V-lux 1, and Silkypix refused to open it... surprised... I then tried one taken with a Leica D-lux 3.... same thing.... then my new Lumix FP3.... once again... a no go...

Tried some more LX5's and they opened perfectly.... AM I RIGHT IN THINKING... THIS IS AN EDITING SUITE TO SUIT ONLY MY LX5?? or any of the newer HIGHER Lumix models??? :dash2: Does it open LX3/D-lux 4 files? or any more of our members digital camera files?

Hi Mal
SP 3.0.2.1 here on windows 4 64bit and no trouble opening in edit the following jpegs / raw for the LX3 / GF1 / even my old L1.
I wonder if the CD thats with the LX5 has this limitation .. dunno .. what version you running .. also you can d/l it from SP japan site for free.
The latest version would be backward compatible IMHO
Cant remember which camera CD is my installed SP.

Cheers

Ok
well mine is the older Silkypix Developer Studio 3.0SE (version 3.0.2.1)
It works with the L1 RAW which is old.

What does it say on the CD (lx5) specific ??? or Just SP .... version etc

My 3 SP cd's do not state camera btw

Ha! I've tried to use it over the past 4 weeks or so, since getting my LX5, and although it works, it's damn near indecipherable. NOT a well-written program. Going to learn LR and/or DxO

Actually Lr3 is a steep learning curve ;)
SP produces excellent results its just the strange editing method :(
Whats special about DxO ???

While it's true that LR3 has a steep learning curve it is still better than SP. With SP there are very few resources for learning the programme, with LR there are many free websites, videos and podcast, dealing with every aspect of the programme in addition to the many very good guides in print. If you do decide to go with LR let me know and I'll send you a list of websites and podcasts.

You can of course download thirty day trials of most of these RAW programmes, though it requires intensive use over such a short period to know if they are really going to suit you. If you are looking at other options the other one I used and liked (before eventually settling on LR) is Capture One.

I am pretty sure the version of Silkypix supplied by Panasonic is camera specific. I own the full version 4 so never bothered with the crippled version. It is quite counter-intuitive and takes a lot of practice. I now use LR3.
